 I. INTRODUCTION

1. Purpose

Many business processes today are largely determined and influenced by the
technologies around them. Cloud computing, big data, and social media are just
a few technologies that shape and influence a business as they do. create huge
amounts of data. This can completely be used by businesses to create a
competitive advantage over competitors, but at the same time also entails
challenges in terms of management and application. This is where COBIT
comes into play

2. History of formation and development stages of COBIT

COBIT was first introduced in 1996, initially as a set of Control Objectives to
assist financial auditors in IT related audits. However, due to the development
of IT, along with seeing its great benefits beyond audit purposes, ISACA
continued to develop and release the next version in 1998. Until 2012, ISACA
COBIT 5.0 release is also the latest current version.
