TENSILE TESTING OF METALLIC MATERIALS

Ref: IS 1608-2005 / ISO: 6892-1998

Format No. F01(5.4) Issue Date : 01.01.2020

LAB CODE 25451 Date of Sampling 10.04.2021

Dimension of section - mm 16 Date of Testing 14.04.2021

METHOD: The test involves straining a test piece by tensile force, generally to fracture for the purpose of determining
one or more of the mechanical properties. The Standard nethod for the tensile testing determines the mechanical properties
at ambient temperature ( 10° C to 35 ° C).

2. PRINCIPLE:-. The bend test consists of submitting a test. piece of round, square, rectangular, or polygonal cross section to plastic
deformation by bending, without changing the direction of loading, until a specsed angle of bend is reached.
The axes af the two legs of the test piece remain h a plane perpendicular to the axis of bending. In the case of 180° bend, the two lateral
surfaces may, depending on the requirements of the material. standard, lie flat against each other or may be parallel at a specified distance,
an insert being used to control this distance.

Tine test piece shall be bent to an include angle of 135° using a mandrel of appropriate diameter . The bent piece shall be aged by keeping
in boiling water (1OO°C) for 30 minute and then allowed to cool. The piece shall then be bent back to have an included angle of 157.5 °.
The specimen shall be considered to have passed the test if there is no rupture or cracks visible to a person of normal or corrected vision
on the rebent portion.
