`Project name: Develop a smart park system

Description:

Imagine, you arrive at your destination twenty minutes early for a very important meeting. You have
plenty of time as long as you can find a place to park your vehicle because the parking lot for the
building is full. You drive around to look for a space on the street but you can’t find one. Then it takes a
half-hour to find a space. When you finally arrive at the office for the meeting, you are sweating
profusely and out of breath. Innovative smart parking technology combined with IoT connectivity helps
solve this problem.

Smart parking development implies an IoT-based system that can sends data about free and occupied
parking places via web or mobile application. The IoT-device, including sensors, microcontrollers and
micro cameras, is located in each parking place. The user receives a live update about the availability of
all parking places and chooses the best one. The main idea is to use distance sensors, which will place at
the parking slot, so that when a vehicle is parked that place, it’s will automatically update to the
administrator management system the vehicle plate. And then, it’s will update to the server, which will
also be update on a board at each floor, then the parking data will send across internet for every one
access with the parking application can check if that parking slot of the build is available or not.

To control all the IoT devices, there will be an administrator for each building which implement the
smart parking system. This administrator room has 2 main functions, view and confirm reservations. We
will need a server to manage buildings, each building will have differences account, and each user will
need to register an account for their reserve. After booked with the app, the people who book that will
come to the parking park, they will show the QR/Bar code that has been generate from the app for
check in and drive to the slot that they have booked. Within a parking area, there will be a security
guard to direct the vehicles. If the vehicles park on wrong slot, the sensors, which is connect and get the
code from the application phone via Wi-fi, and alarm if the vehicles is parked at wrong slot.

Resources:

Depend on the parking area capacity, the price for implement this will divided into 3 packages:

- 90000$ to 120000$ for 40 – 75 vehicle slots, deployment time: 2 months to 4 months.

- 125000$ to 160000$ for 76 – 140 vehicle slots. deployment time: 2 months to 7 months.
- 165000$ to 200000$ for 141 – 200 vehicle slots, deployment time: 4 months to 10 months.

Use of IoT ecosystem:

Hardware: ESP8266 microcontroller, Y-530 VL53L0X ToF distance sensor, CCTV AHD micro camera

Network: MQTT protocol

Cloud & Analytics: Amazon Web Services: AWS IoT, AWS Lambda

Used Programming Languages: MicroPython, Python, JavaScript

For implement the vehicles parking system, we only need to install the sensor at the parking slot, then
connect the sensor with the building account application. After complete installation of the parking
slot’s sensor and connected to the server, the parking system is ready to park and reserves.
Scope:

Research and development of IoT in the field parking system. The goal is to automate and decrease time
spent manually searching for the optimal parking floor, spot and even lot.

Research and development period in 2 months

Project times:

Start: 18/1/2021 -> finish 18/42021.

Time: 3 months .

Project Objectives:

Smart Parking is one of the most adopted and fastest growing Smart City Solutions across the world.
Airports, universities, shopping centers and city garages are just a few entities that have begun to realize
the significant benefits of automated parking technology. The ability to connect, analyze and automate
data gathered from devices, powered by and described as the Internet of Things, is what makes smart
parking possible.

Smart Parking involves the use of low cost sensors, real-time data and applications that allow users to
monitor available and unavailable parking spots. The goal is to automate and decrease time spent
manually searching for the optimal parking floor, spot and even lot. Some solutions will encompass a
complete suite of services such as online payments, parking time notifications and even car searching
functionalities for very large lots. A parking solution can greatly benefit both the user and the lot owner.
