<ij WARNINGS

INFORMATION

A - Never disconnect the batteries with the endothermic engine on.

Whenever it is necessary to disconnect the batteries, first always disconnect the chassis earth cable from the
negative terminal of the batteries.
Before connecting the batteries to the system, always check first that the system is properly isolated.
During the search for a circuit malfunction, place a temporary fuse between the negative terminal of the battery
and the chassis earth (general cut-out with current on).
Before removing electrical and/or electronic componentes, disconnect the earth from the negative terminal of
the battery.
Electrical testing of electronic components must only be carried out with suitable testing equipment.
Do not supply components served by the trigger box with power from the nominal voltage of the vehicle.
Check that the electrical equipment's cables (length, type, dislocation of clamps, possible continuity of seals,
earthing, etc) conform to the IVECO system and that they are renewed after maintenance operations.
Do not install additional electrical/electronic equipment which may be outside the IVECO specification, or illegal
(e.g. C.B. transmitters above the SW legal maximum power).
Disconnect the system's batteries while they are being recharged with external equipment. Disconnect the recharg-
ing equipment from the mains before disconnecting the equipment's clamps from the battery terminals.
During welding work on the chassis, disconnect the positive cable of the battery and connect it to the chassis earth.
- The engine must only be activated when the cab is firmly locked in its maximum open position, with the hand
brake on and the gear lever in neutral.
If it is necessary to disconnect the earth cable from the chassis, when it is reconnected the old paint must be
a
throughly removed and new even layer of BH 44 D paint or KontaKtalon must be laid according to the follow-
ing procedure:

10 Remove the paint on the chassis and the clamp, either mechanically or by paint-stripping chemical means.
20 Apply the new paint by brush or by spray.
30 Connect the earth cables within 5 minutes of the application of the paint.
40 In the case of the creation of a new earthing point, the area around the new clamp fixing hole must be
filed off until all the anaphoretic paint is removed, creating a flat surface free of spiky or uneven points.

BASIC STRUCTURE OF THE POWER NETWORK

In this chapter, the basic structure of the vehicle's elec- II

trical system is shown, and instructions are also given for --------------------
the dismantling and replacement of the principal electri-
cal component.

94E/2

NEGATIVE BATIERY CABLE CONNECTION

Power network

The purpose of the electrical system is to generate, regu-

late, accumulate and distribuite the necessary energy for
the functioning of the vehicle components.
For this purpose, the supply of the basic electrical sys-
tem is provided by a 14V and a battery of 12V 88 Ah.

B. BATIERY EARTH

Negative network

The negative network of the battery is linked to a fixed

earth point (M I) via a black 35mm 2-cable, attached at
a point on the right of the crackcase (in the direction
of travel). At exactly the same point, the earthing cable
of the C1U switchboard is connected (see fig. 2), with
a section of 2.5 mm2. I

BASIC STRUCTURE OF THE POWER NETWORK

Again at the bottom of the engine, but this time on the

left in the direction of travel, is the 16 mm 2 cable which
connects the negative to the chassis earth M2-M3 (see
fig. 4).

From the earth point M3 the electrical network provides

the earthing point for chassis components (see fig. 4).

Finally, for the engine compartment the earth is provid-

ed from two points, on the left and right wheelarches
respectively, named M4 and MS in the present manual.

BASIC STRUCTURE OF THE POWER NETWORK

Positive network

The positive terminal of the battery is connected to ter-

minal 30 of the starter motor, via a 35 mm2 red cable
(see fig. 6 and 7). -

From the same terminal a 6 mm2 cable connects the

positive supply to the B + of the alternator (see fig. 8);
while another 10 mm2 cable, again starting at the start-
er motor 30 terminal, link the positive network to the
central interconnecting unit (C1U) via the connection point
marked with the + symbol (see fig. 10).

From this point the positive network of the vehicle is

completed by the ignition key link with a 6 mm 2 red ca-
ble (see fig. I I).

ELECTRONIC MODULE FOR THERMOSTARTER CONTROL

The new thermostarter control system is equipped with 16

1
a self-diagnostic device which operates through the elec-
tronic central unit located near the glove compartment. 50 L
The self-diagnostic device will show any failure which might
occur in the preheating electrical circuit or in the central
unit internal circuit by flashing an indicator located on the
dashboard.
MV
31
The electrical system is also protected upstream by an
extra 25A fuse in addition to those already existing in
-K
the I.CU.

Preheating is obtained by turning the key-switch to service

position ( + 15). The preheating time can be changed or
reduced to zero accorcing to engine water temperature.

For preheating operation, the engine water temperature

IOS9E
should be < 2,5 ± 2 °C
ELECTRICAL DIAGRAM
Preheating time at 0 °C is 72 ± 4 sec.
- at 10°C is 84 ± 5,5 sec. 1
17
-at 20°C is 104 ± 7,5 sec.

N.B.: The thermostarters mounted are the same as for

the 35/40. 10 range.

VARIANTS

N.B. It is useful to bear in mind that the oil level check

is carried out within 3 seconds. The reading is memorised
and maintained even when the engine is running.
After approximately 3 seconds the engine oil level is no
longer checked.
After topping up the engine oil, the malfunction warning
can only be reconnected with the removal of the igni-
tion key.
- To chek the brake level fluid and front and rear brake
wear, the brake malfunction warning 58052 located in
the optical indicator sector is activated as well as the three
red leds and the warning signal on the check facility.
30---41------ - The electric equipment network of the vehicle has
the facility to connect the Iveco control system. However
it is necessary to alter the connections XVIII and XIX,
four way, removing the existing jump switch and linking
them to each other.

CENTRAL INTERCONNECTING UNIT

The Central Interconnecting Unit

The central interconnecting unit (C1U) is placed in the

area to the bottom left of the driver's seat.

To work on its connectors, to the cab, engine and chas-

sis cable. connected to the back of the C1U. it is neces-
sary to unscrew the four fixing screws (see fig. 20).

To avoid disconnecting cables by mistake, move it with

care.

All the connection sockets maintain their electrical con-

tact via a locking tongue on the block itself (see fig. 21).

To remove them, press down on the tongue with a

screwdriver and pull gently.

C1U FIXING SCREWS

Relay and diode holders

The relays and diodes are located in the seats provided

at the front part of the central interconnecting unit (C1U).

In the case of replacement, make sure the new relay or

diode holder has the same specification as the old one.

Fuses

Subdivided into several distinct functions (recharging,

starting, etc.). the electrical system is protected by a series
of fuses located in the front part of the central intercon-
necting unit (see fig. 22).

The value of the current stated in amperes and stamped

on the fuses themselves, refers to the intensity of cur-
VIEW OF THE CAB TO CIU CABLE CONNECTIONS rent which can circulate without the electrical equipment,
protected by the given fuse. suffering any damage.

In fact such values are based on the current absorbed

by every component and therefore it is necessary to en-
sure a high standard of reliability and operation of equip-
ment, and to respect the values of absorption given by
the constructor if it is found that a fuse must be replaced.
