GOOD MANNERS

When you are in a meeting, you have to check your manners if you want
to be successful. Simple manners in the workplace are not always
noticed, but bad manners certainly are. To get ahead and stay ahead,
simple courtesy is a must.

Sometimes, you will be busy and you won’t be in the mood for atten-
ding a meeting. However, attending meetings with a positive attitude
could be a great opportunity to grow in a company.

Meetings should only be requested when there is an important issue

to discuss and they should always have a clear and short agenda.
When you attend a meeting, it is recommended for you to have all the
relevant data available in case it is needed. When you are in a
meeting, it is very important to pay attention to what is being said.
You should take notes and ask questions that will contribute to the
meeting’s feedback.

Your participation will let you share your point of view. You should
be careful when asking questions and sharing your opinion, make sure
you do it accordingly to the subject, work experience and prior
knowledge.

There are some recommendations that you can follow when you attend a
meeting:

- Do not be late, show respect for the people you work with.
- Do not interrupt the speaker, unless it is relevant to the topic
- being discussed.
- Raise your hand and wait until the speaker asks you to talk.
- your participation should be related to the subject being
- discussed.
- you can sit or stand up if it is necessary.
- Deactivate sound option on your cellphone to keep it from
- ringing.
- Speak clearly and try to be concise to let others share their
- ideas.
- show respect for other people’s ideas. Whether you agree or not,
- you should always be respectful when answering back.
- Dress professionally. Let others see your skills, not body
- parts.
