Position Myth: “I can’t manage if I am not at the top”

In today’s topic that was discussed I learned the definition of management. I learned that
management is not only a distinct process of planning, organizing, actuating and controlling. It is
managing an organization with your heart and giving your best to lead to become effective and
efficient leader. As my professor discussed that being a leader may not be need at the top or its not
needed that you are in high position. Then I realize that maybe it depends upon the situation because
I agree to the position myth wherein it said that “I can’t manage if I am not at the top”. So, why I
agreed to that beyond my perspectives?

I agree to the position myth “I can’t manage if I am not at the top”. Because for me being at
the top means you have fully equipped skills and big achievements. And if you are about to manage
you must have those characteristics. Also, being at the top means you are well experienced person so
that you can manage effectively and efficiently. According to google, Experience is knowledge or skill
in a particular job or activity, which you have gained because you have done that job or activity for a
long time. He has also had managerial experience on every level. The achievements and skills you have
gained out of your experience in every aspect can define your ability to manage. According to Harold
Koontz, “Management is an art of getting things done through and with the people in formally
organized groups. From this, being at the top means that you have done things well to be at the top.
And that is needed in management.

The things you have done defects your ability to do something. It can may define a person’s
ability to manage. I agree in this position myth because of this realization or opinion of me that being
at the top is connected on how you reach that level and what you have been through. For me to
manage I must be well experienced and I have achievements that brings me to the top. I know that
being a manager in an organization takes a lot of responsibilities.

As an educator, I realize that being at the top means you are outstanding and have experience
that that can fueled a person to become a leader. I would like to become a person on a top of cliff
wherein I will use rope to get the others to the top to achieve the goals of an organization. The rope
symbolizes as my experience and achievements for me to carry the loads of being a leader. I do believe
that for you to become an effective and efficient leader you must have experienced in every aspect
and you have achievements wherein you’ve done things very well to get it. And not just having only
good attitude and good relationship to your subordinates.
