10
③ STRUCTURE

(1). This pump is a submersible pump of the vertical shaf t type wit h a submersible
motor direct ly connected to the motor shaf t. The pump has an excellent
watertight structure, and is designed f or an easy disassembling, inspect ion
and maintenance.
(2). The agitator is f ixed at the end of the pump shaf t. Sand/solid in water is
smoothly transf erred as the agitator eff ectively stirs sand in water.
(3). Mechanical seal is used as a shaf t sealing of the pump.
(4). The pump is durable enough f or continuous running, and makes little
vibrat ion and noise.

④ PRIOR TO INSTALLATION

(1). Af ter unpacking, check the nameplat e on the product to conf irm that the
model, voltage, f requency, motor output, discharge diamet er, total head,
capacit y correspond to the model ordered.
(2). Inspect the product t o see if there is pr oduct damage during shipping.
Inspect the power cable thoroughly f or the damage, and all the bolts and nuts
to see if they are tightened proper ly.
(3). Check that all the accessor ies are delivered with t he pump. Please contact
the nearby Sakuragawa dealer or Sakuragawa representative if any damage
to and discrepancy of the deliver ed product and accessor ies are f ound.

11
⑤ INSTALLATION

WARNING

Ref er to “1 BE SURE TO READ FO R YOUR SAFETY” and perf orm the installation
saf ely in or der to prevent serious accidents.

(1). Make sure that there is no hindrance to installat ion work of the pump, lif ting
up and lower ing down, and loading and unloading the pump, at a place of
installat ion.
(2). W hen installing the pump, suspend or hang the pump so that the pump does
not sink int o sand and clay, and the inner part of the pump and pipe is not
f illed with sand.
(3). Use a discharge pipe of the s ame size as that of the pump. A use of a
smaller-sized discharge pipe would increase a pipe f riction loss, and f low
rate would decrease as the result, and a larger -sized discharge pipe would
cause the pipe clogging as sedimentat ion of sand in the pipe is likely to
occur.
(4). Avoid the end of the discharge pipe to be placed under water. W ith the end
of the discharge pipe under water, backf low occurs due to siphon phenomena.
Use a check valve in the case that this could not be avoided.
(5). Have some extra length of the power cable. The extra length of the power
cable, however, shall be as m inimum as possible, and take some procedure
that the power cable is not loosen by using hook or others.

12
⑥ OPERATION

(1). Turn the power supply ON/OFF one time or two t imes to conf ir m if there is no
abnormalit y in start ing.
(2). Check the direction of rotation of the pump. Correct direction of rotation is
clock wise viewed f rom the top of the
pump, and the reaction of the pump upon
starting is to counter -clock wise.

W hen the pump rotates in

an opposite direct ion, turn
the power supply off and
change the connect ion of
any of two cor es to the
power supply.

(3). W hen a hose is used as discharge pipe of the pump and the hose turns or
bends largely, rearr ange the posit ion of the turned or bended parts of the
hose as straight as possible.
(4). Check the discharge volume and conf irm if a certain volume is discharged.
(5). Check that the pump runs without vibrat ion, noise, and other problems.
(6). Check the water level. Do not operate the pump in absence of water (dr y
running) f or a long time. Otherwise, Auto Cut, a motor pr otector, would
work to protect the m otor. Repeating this cycle would shorten the lif e of the
pump – ref er to “7 MOTOR PROTECTION SYSTEM”.
(7). For automat ic ope rat ion, conf irm if the pump starts and stops automatically,
and meanwhile, the f requency of the pump operat ion. The f requency of the
pump oper ation per hour is 5 times as m aximum .

13
⑦ MOTOR PROTECTION SYSTEM

One or more of the following motor protections are used f or the pump. The type
of the mot or protection us ed f or the pump diff ers depending on the model. Please
see the Circuit Diagram that f ollows this ite m. To protect the motor, a specialized
relay, a rely set f or Water Inf iltration Det ector or W D. , and a No-f use breaker or a
Magnetic Switch are necessar y f or a Miniatur e Thermal Protector, or MTP and
Water Inf iltration Detector or W D., to f unction, or the pump would be tur ned
ON/OFF by automat ic cut -off .

(1). Auto-Cut (AC)

Auto-Cut (AC) is a m otor prote ctor with an automatic recover y f unction which is
installed at the neut ral point of the stator coil of the star -connect ed motor.
W hen the AC is overheated due to the electr ical or mechanical cause, the
contact opens and t he operat ion of the pump stops to prevent the burnout of
the motor. As time passes and the temperature of the motor is cooled down,
the AC recovers and the pump starts running.
(2). Miniature Thermal Pr otector ( MTP)
Three (3) MTPs in total are connected in ser ies to each phase of the
delta-connected mot or. W hen the stator coil of the motor is over heated due to
electrical or mechanical cause, the cont act opens and the operat ion of the
pump stops to prevent the burnout of the motor.
(3). Water Inf iltration Detector (W D)
W D is installed on t he upper part of the shaf t sealing. Water intrusion f rom
the shaf t sealing is t o be detect ed by W D.

If the pump exhibits abnormal conditions due to the protect ion system or mechanical
case, please r ef er to “10 TROUBLESHOO TING”, and then inspect the pump. Make
sure to remove all the causes of abnormal condit ions bef ore resuming the operation
of the pump.

14
⑧ ELECTRICAL W IRING

※ C olor of the wire (core) used her e is Japanese standar d. Please check the
standard color in your countr y.

15
⑨ MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION

CAUTION

Make sure that the power supply is disconnected when conducting maint enance and
inspect ion.

(1). Daily Inspect ion

Set the inspection period and conduct the inspection of the pump as f requently
as possible.
To keep the inspect ion record is highly recommended as this leads to a long -term
use of the pump.
1. Make sure that the value of the insulat ion resistance is 1Mohm or above.
The value is not considerably lower than that of last inspection.
2. Measure the value of an ammeter (below rated current ), and a volt -mater
(+-15% of rated volt age) .
3. Make sure that there is no water and lubr icant oil leak.
4. Make sure that there is no abnormal condition – noise and vibration.
5. Check the discharge volume.
6. For automat ic operat ion, check the condit ion of the f loat level switch.
(2). Periodic Inspection
Conduct the per iodic inspection once a m onth.
Measure the insulation r esistance bet ween each core of phase and a
ground/earth with a megger of 500V to check that the value of the insulation
resistance is 1MO hm or higher.
[IF THE INSULATION RESI STANCE IS LOW ER THAN 1MOHM, DO NOT USE
THE PUMP.] In this case, a repair of the pump is required.
The procedur e of measuring the insulation resistance is as shown below:
(A). Check that each phase of the power cable has continuit y.
For dir ect-on- line...Red, while, and black
For Star-delta...Red- blue, white- yellow, and black -brown
(B). Check that there is continuit y bet ween t he core of ground/earth of the
power cable in green and the pump body.
(C). Check that the value of the insulation resistance is 1MOhm or higher
bet ween each core of the phase and ground/earth in green.
(D). W hen the pump is equipped with the W D, check that the value of the
insulation resistance is 1MOhm or higher bet ween the core of the W D in

16
white and ground/earth in green of the p ower cable.

(3). Shaf t Seal Part

The shaf t seal or mechanical seal is f or a long -term use. Its usage period,
however, var ies depending on conditions, and f or a clear water pumping, it
lasts appr oximat ely f or 5,000 to 6, 000 hours of oper ation. To use the shaf t
seal as long a period as po ssible, check the condit ion of lubricant oil
periodically, and replenish turbine oil to rated amount. The amount of the
lubr icant oil is about 80% of the oil chamber of the pump. Excessive amount
of the lubr icant oil in the oil chamber may lead to expans ion of the lubricant oil.
Please note that there is turbine oil f or high temperature applicat ion and f or a
use in cold region.
(4). Storage
1. If the pump remains under water, operate the pump on a regular basis, at
least once or t wice a month, f or 5 to 10 minutes .
2. W hen the pump is not in use, wash the inside and outside of the pump with
f resh wat er. Dry the pump well and then keep the pump in storage f ree
f rom moisture.
3. For automatic operat ion, clear any f oreign matters around and on the f loat
switch so that the m ovement of the f loat level switch is not hindered.
