It was the first day of spring in the Kingdom and the trees were budding with fresh green

leaves, the
flowers were slowly opening to show their bright, colourful petals and the magic in the forrest was
returning as the animals were coming out of hibernation.

Prince Eric was very pleased as spring had returned, his favourite time of the year. he decided that
morning to take a ride on his horse into the magical forest to take in the crisp morning air.

As he was riding through the forest he was astounded by its beauty. The morning rays of the sun
were glistening through the trees and onto the river that flowed through it. He rode deep into the
forest, not realising that he had left the bounds of his Kingdom of Alaron far in the distance.
Mesmerised by the beauty, he followed the river until he came across a waterfall. He stopped and
got off his horse to have a drink of water and as he stepped onto the rock over the waterfall, his foot
slipped on the moss and he fell head first into the pool below.

On the same morning, Nesrin, a breathtakingly beautiful high elf was on patrol of the borders of the
small high elf kingdom of Gwynneth . Her long red hair was adorned with small white daisies and her
piercing green eyes were magnified against her alabaster skin.

She noticed a human entering their lands uninvited and abhorred his insolence. She kept herself
hidden and watched him intently from a distance until she saw him fall into the pool below the
waterfall.

She moved closer and noticed that he was no longer moving and felt conflicted against her duty to
protect the realm and her duty to save a life. She decided that saving a life was more true to her own
personal morality so she jumped into the pool and pulled the man out onto the river bank. She used
her healing powers to stabilise him but the injuries he had sustained were too severe for her to heal
all at once and he would die if she just left him there. She felt obligated to ensure his full recovery so
decided to take him back to her home despite the risks she faced if the authorities found out about
it.

Several days had passed and the man was still in a deep slumber from which he had not awoken.
Nesrin went out into the village to collect more supplies and upon her return found that no one was
in the bed. She frantically looked around her home only to find him awake and hiding under the bed
with her dagger in hand. Prince Eric was in awe of Nesrin’s beauty and immediately dropped the
dagger and came out of hiding. They introduced themselves and Nesrin explained to the Prince that
she had saved him from drowning. He was ever so grateful and Nesrin was taken aback by his
gratitude and kindness towards her. He stayed with her for a few more days to make sure that he
was fully healed and in that time Prince Eric and Nesrin developed a romantic love for one another.
When it was time, she snuck the Prince out of the elf Kingdom but was unknowingly seen by one of
the soldiers who was on patrol of the border.

When she returned home, the royal guards were waiting for her and she was taken in to the palace
for questioning. She was locked in the holding cells for several weeks under suspicion of being a
human agent, awaiting the return of the elf Queen to decide her fate. Nesrin fell very sick whilst she
was locked away and was taken to the healer to be seen to, it was then that she discovered that she
was pregnant with Prince Eric’s child.

Shortly thereafter, the Queen arrived and sat to hear Nesrin’s case. Nesrin explained the story to the
Queen and confessed her love for the human Prince. The Queen decided that Nesrin had brought
shame to the elven Kingdom and sentenced her to death.
Nesrin pleaded with the Queen and explained that she was expecting a baby so the Queen revoked
the death sentence and banished Nesrin to the forest on the outskirts of the Kingdom and was
commanded to never see the Prince again. Nesrin accepted her punishment and moved to the forest
where she had to start a new life with her unborn baby.

Several months later, Nesrin gave birth to a beautiful half elf and named her Isis after the ancient
mythological goddess of life. Her skin was alabaster like her mothers, she had hair as dark as the
night and her eyes were a magical golden colour. She had elf ears with more human facial features.
She was the most beautiful baby Nesrin had ever seen.

During this time, a brutal war was raging between the High Elves and the Drow. As if fate had
predestined this story, a Drow baby was presented to the Queen by her general. He explained that
his troops had wiped out a Drow village near the front lines and the baby was found alive. Rather
than executing the baby, he brought it back to the Queen for her to decide its fate.

As further punishment for her shame, the Queen commanded Nesrin to suckle and raise the Drow
baby as her own. For a High Elf, this was a fate worse than death. The baby was the complete
opposite to Isis, she had black skin and pearlescent silver hair. If Isis eyes were the colour of the sun,
this baby’s eyes were the colour of the moon. There was a certain darkness about her and Nesrin
decided to name her Nephthys, after the mythological goddess of death and decay and also Isis
sister.

Nesrin raised Isis and Nephthys as sisters, however always favoured her own daughter and only
raised Nephthys out of duty and not love. If it wasn’t for Isis, Nephthys would have felt alone
because Isis was the one person she had a bond with, even though they had an opposite outlook on
the world. Where Isis saw light and life, Nephthys saw death and darkness.

Nesrin always told the girls the truth about their backgrounds and where they came from. Isis knew
that Prince Eric was her father, however Nesrin banned her from ever looking for him and Nephthys
knew that the Queen was responsible for the death of her family but that she showed her mercy by
allowing her to be raised by Nesrin.

Being a Cleric of Hanali Celanil, Nesrin was able to teach the girls how to use weapons and how to
cast spells. Isis discovered that she was naturally better at fighting and weaponry as opposed to spell
casting. She spent her time training day and night with Nephthys.

Nephthys was never interested in learning divine spell casting, she instead felt an innate power
within her. She always sensed a higher being in the shadows, watching her. Always she looked to the
stars, feeling an intense power in the far beyond beckoning to her.

As they grew they felt a calling to leave their lands in order to carve out a future of their own. With
the blessing of Nesrin they travelled far to the most famous city of the world, Waterdeep, a place of
mystery and power where a new future might be forged. And no better place to start than the world
renowned tavern of the Yawning Portal on the sides of Mount Waterdeep.
