(1) a. 16

Step 1
Let us assume the number of $100 notes = x
Total $ made up by x notes of $100 = 100x

Step 2
According to the question, number of $50 notes are 2 times the number of $100
notes.
Therefore, the number of $50 notes = 2x
Total $ made up by 2x notes of $50 = 50 × 2x = 100x

Step 3
Number of $20 notes are 5 times the number of $50 notes.
Therefore, the number of $20 notes = 5 × 2x = 10x
Total $ made up by 10x notes of $20 = 20 × 10x = 200x

Step 4
Number of $10 notes are 3 times the number of $20 notes.
Therefore, the number of $10 notes = 3 × 10x = 30x
Total $ made up by 30x notes of $10 = 10 × 30x = 300x

Step 5
Since, the amount of $ 5600 is made up of $ 100, 50, 20 and 10 notes.
Therefore, 100x + 100x + 200x + 300x = $ 5600
700x = $ 5600
5600
⇒x=
700

Step 6

5600
Thus, the number of $50 notes = 2x = 2 ×     = 16
700

Step 7
Hence, option a is the correct answer.

(2) d. All of these

Step 1
Rational numbers: A rational number is any number that can be expressed as
p
the quotient or fraction     of two integers, p and q, with the denominator q not
q
equal to zero.

Step 2

0
Now,    is the rational number with p = 0 and q = 12.
12
7
    is the rational number with p = 7 and q = -11.
-11
-3
    is the rational number with p = 7 and q = -7.
-7

Step 3
Therefore, the correct option is d.

(3) d. The denominator b cannot be 0.

Step 1

a
If we look at the question carefully, we notice that the given rational number is
b
 .

Step 2
Definition of a rational number :
Rational numbers are terminating or recurring decimal numbers written in the
p
form of fraction    , in which 'p' and 'q' are integers and the denominator 'q' not
q
equal to zero.
Here, the denominator is b.
According to the definition, the denominator b cannot be zero.

Step 3
Hence, option d is the correct answer.

(4) c. 482

Step 1
We know that the area of a square is equal to the square of its side.

Step 2
This means, to find the possible sides of the square we calculate the square root
of the areas given in the options. So, for the side of the square to be a whole
number the given area should be a perfect square.

Step 3
Out of all the options given to us, only 482 is not a perfect square (others are
squares of 16, 22, and 29).
Therefore, we can say that 482 cannot be the area of a square.

(5) d. 144

Step 1
N is a positive integer and sum of its two smallest factors is 4.
1 is certainly the smallest factor of N , therefore the second smallest factor of N

is 3.

Step 2
It is given that the sum of the two largest factors of N is 192.
N
Observe that 1 and 3 are the two smallest factors of N , therefore N and are
3
the two largest factors of N .
Now,
N
N + = 192
3

4N
⟹ = 192
3

⟹ 4N = 576

⟹ N = 144

Step 3
Hence, the value of N is 144.

(6) 42

Step 1
It is given that x and y vary inversely and x = 35 when y = 24. We need to find
the value of y when x = 20.

Step 2
Since x and y vary inversely,
∴  x1 × y1 = x2 × y2

⟹ 35 × 24 = 20 × y

35 × 24
⟹ y =
20

⟹ y = 42

Step 3
Hence, the value of y is 42 when x = 20.

(7) 2992

Step 1
Given:
r = 17 cm

h = 28 cm

Step 2
Curved surface area of the cylinder = (2πrh) sq units

22
2
= (2 × × 17 × 28) cm
7

2
= 44 × 68 cm
2
= 2992 cm

Step 3
Therefore, the curved surface area of the cylinder is 2992 cm2 .

A) 813604

Step 1
Use the standard identities here:
For example (a + b)2 = a 2 + b2 + 2ab.
Similarly, (a - b)2 = a 2 + b2 - 2ab.

Step 2
Now, 902 = 900 + 2
or, 9022 = (900 + 2)2
or, 9022 = 9002 + 22 + (2 × 900 × 2)
or, 9022 = 810000 + 4 + 3600
or, 9022 = 813604

B) 808201

Step 1
Use the standard identities here:
For example (a + b)2 = a 2 + b2 + 2ab.
Similarly, (a - b)2 = a 2 + b2 - 2ab.

Step 2
Now, 899 = 900 - 1
or, 8992 = (900 - 1)2
or, 8992 = 9002 + 12 - (2 × 900 × 1)
or, 8992 = 810000 + 1 - 1800
or, 8992 = 808201

(9) 4x2 - 9

Step 1

According to the question, park is 15x2 - 3x - 16 km from Jeff's house. Let us

assume that school is x km from the church.

Step 2
If we look at the given figure carefully, we notice that
x + (9x2 + 6x + 2x2 - 9x - 7) = 15x2 - 3x - 16
⇒ x = 15x2 - 3x - 16 - (9x2 + 6x + 2x2 - 9x - 7)
⇒ x = 4x2 - 9

Step 3

So, we can say that school is 4x2 - 9 km from church.

(10) 19.54

Step 1
The grocer purchased 70 kg of pulses for $12 per kg.
Total price of the pulses will be equal to 70 × 12 = $840 .

Step 2
The above purchased pulses is mixed with 120 kg of pulses at $19 per kg.
The cost price is equal to 120 × 19 = $2280

Step 3
The total weight of the mixture is 120 + 70 = 190 kg.
The price of this mixture is 840 + 2280 = $3120.
3120
The price per kg is $    = $16.42.
190

Step 4
As the profit expected is 19%, the cost of per kg of the pulses will be equal to
$16.42 + 19% of 16.42,
19 × 16.42
= 16.42 +
100
= 16.42 + 3.12
= 19.54

Step 5
The rate at which the mixture of pulses must be sold = $19.54 per Kg.
