THE ORGANIC - AND CHEAPER - ALTERNATIVE

IT is important to feel a connection with, and trust in the food we eat, and New Year is a great time to
make a difference to your families.
The award winning Riverford Organic Vegetable Box Scheme makes life easy, forget your regular
supermarket trip and let Riverford Organic on Stockley Farm deliver
straight to your door. You don’t even need to be at home to collect your
delivery and you can order weekly, fortnightly or as a one off – whatever
suits you.
There is a wide range of box sizes to choose from starting at £9.85, and
you can add any extra produce you like to your order including eggs,
milk, meat, wine, beer and chocolate!
Ordering a vegbox from Riverford will not only guarantee a healthy
start to the New Year but you could save money. In a recent comparison Riverford vegboxes come out
at around 20% cheaper than organic food at the supermarket, breaking the myth that organic vegbox
schemes are more expensive. Also we won’t just drop off a load of veg leaving you wondering what to do
with it; in each vegbox is a recipe card which comes with up to 6 tasty recipes to get you started.
A Riverford Organic vegbox is an easy and affordable way to feed your family a healthier, fresher diet of
seasonal organic vegetables, and for the New Year we are offering all new customers a 3 for the price of 2
offer. For more information visit our website www.riverford.co.uk/stockley or call our friendly customer

IN THE NEWS

Supermarket for Tarvin?

PLANS for a supermarket in Tarvin have been submitted to the borough council. The
scheme would include 28 car parking spaces and a pedestrian/cycle link to the high street.

Roadworks continue
ROADWORKS at the A49 and A54 junction at Little Budworth are expected to last until mid-
April. Work includes resurfacing work, better street lighting and a new traffic signal layout in
an effort to cut the high accident rate at the junction.

All change for Conservatives

CONSERVATIVE councillors Barbara Roberts and Andrew Needham have failed to be
selected by their party for the forthcoming local elections.

Stud farm planned

UP to 20 jobs could be created if an unused farm on the Bolesworth Estate, at Tattenhall,
is turned into an international stud farm. The plans for a stallion yard and stabling for 75
horses are going before Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Pub redevelopment scheme refused

PLANS to refurbish a pub and create 27 homes at Tattenhall have fallen foul of a planning
inspector. The developers wanted to transform the Oak Room, on Tattenhall Road, into a
pub, shop and B&B, as well as creating new homes but the plans were turned down on
appeal.

Eye surgery bus on display

The Lions Club have converted a
second hand single decker bus into a
mobile eye surgery. This will be donated
to Lions Clubs in Uganda where
there are 140,000 people suffering
from defective sight due to cataracts.
The Lions will use it to conduct eye
treatments and cataract operations on
patients unable to get to a city hospital.
Members of Chester Lions Club are
inviting people to inspect the bus
which will be on display in The Mews,
Springhill, Tarporley, CW6 9UP (2nd
on right after Spar petrol station) on
Sunday, 6th March from 11am - 3pm.
For further information visit
www.chesterlions.co.uk or call Ted Davis

TARPORLEY PARISH COUNCIL
NEWSLETTER
Tidy up Time
Last September we in Tarporley were delighted – and not
a little surprised – to win our group of the Best Kept Village
competition.
This year we hope to do as well, if not better, but will need
the help of villagers if we are to achieve this aim. The
parish council considers the competition to be a useful
indicator of the general health of the village and takes
seriously the business of maintaining the village as an
attractive place to live in and to visit. As such, we have a
Street Scene Working Group that monitors the condition
and tidiness of the village and discusses and promotes
improvements.
We are aware of many items needing attention this year;
the public notice board for example. In these cases action
is in hand or is planned. However, as volunteers ourselves,
we cannot realistically expect to be anywhere near100%
effective. We therefore appeal to all members of the community to look around them and to
let us know if anything strikes them as being wrong or in need of improvement. Contacts are
given opposite.
If you feel sufficiently strongly about a particular project we might even encourage you to have
a go yourselves. In many communities residents or businesses have adopted small areas or
features and set about maintaining or improving them, for instance by repainting or tidying and
planting. Such projects might only take a small amount of time but can make a big difference
to the ‘feel’ of the community.

Family firm on a mission to match
you with your perfect bed!
IT’S great to see a family business succeed on the high street.
In these days where the big out of town warehouses dominate
the retail scene, Land of Beds, in Helsby, has shown that it is
possible for a small firm to succeed.
The Murray family started off with Frodsham Car-
pet and Bed Centre in the 1970s and have recently
expanded, opening the new Land of Beds store , on
Chester Road, Helsby.
The business began with Harold C Murray, who was
joined by his son Mike. Now it’s a real family affair with
Mike and his wife Maria and their two sons Michael and
Lee running the business.
They have built up a really loyal customer base with their atten-
tion to detail, competitive prices and stocking of some of the top UK bed manufacturers.
They are on a mission to help you sleep better. It’s this experience built up over nearly four
decades that can match you with your perfect
bed. Mike’s view is that your quality of sleep
has a profound effect on your mood, health
and general quality of life.

Sixth Form College
Recognition for P.A. Pamela
- the lifeblood of the school
Congratulations to Pamela Zborowski who has won the Secondary Headteacher’s
PA of the Year Award 2010.
Pete Henshaw, Editor of the Secondary Education Magazine which has been running the
Award sponsored by Unison for five years, came to present the award to Pamela during an
assembly with Year 10 students.
Pamela joined Tarporley in
2005 and in her nomination
head teacher Sarah Lee
described the impact she has
had in that short time, with
staff, students, parents and the
local community.
She wrote “Pamela has
utterly transformed the
PA role and has become
part of the life blood of the
institution. She has achieved
this largely through the
warmth and infectiousness
of her personality but also
through her dedication and
professionalism. Visitors to the
school, particularly candidates
on interview each year for
teaching and support staff posts, regularly leave complimenting us on the welcome they
received and quoting the support, care and attention that Pamela has shown them, putting
them at ease whilst with us in school.”
Pamela works closely with a large number of students within the school. She leads a group
of student ambassadors who assist her as student guides for interview candidates and
visitors. In doing so, she actively develops their self confidence and their presentation skills.
On receiving the award, Pamela said: “As well as the beautiful crystal plaque and certificate
presented by Mr Henshaw, the students also presented me with some flowers and gifts and
a congratulations card signed by all my Ambassadors – something I will keep and cherish for
always. This has been a lovely recognition for doing something I feel very lucky to do; my job
in a fantastic school!”

Town prepares for twinning
visit from Les Francais
Established in 1983, through The British Council, the Tarporley Twinning Association is
in its 28th year.
Each odd year, the French adults from our twin town of Bohars in Brittany come to
Tarporley, and our children go to Bohars. In even years the position is reversed.
Over the years people drift in and out of the Association. There is no membership fee and
the British Council constitution stipulates it is open to all locals, which defines the difference
between an Association, a Club or
Society.
There has never been any political
slant to the Twinning Association, which
is always looking for people within the
Tarporley postcode area to support
it by way of hosting French adults or
children. If you are interested in joining

Q. I want to treat my Mum to a special treatment for Mother’s

Day. What would you recommend?
A. You don’t mention the age of our mother or if she is used
to having beauty treatments which would affect the choice
of appropriate treatments. As a general rule of thumb,
always choose enjoyable treatments – Mother’s Day is not
the time to introduce them to the course of electrolysis hair
removal treatments that you think she needs! The most
popular treatments for Mother’s day are facial treatments and
manicures, but if your Mum is used to treatments think outside
of the box and ask your beauty therapist to help you create

The start of last year’s Sandstone Run

Runners ready to hit the trail

Cheshire’s Sandstone Trail is the venue for a 10k Spring Cross-country
run on Sunday 10th April.
Organised by the NSPCC Nantwich District Committee, the run takes in a
variety of terrain and encompasses wonderful views and countryside. Last
year’s event attracted over 200 runners.
The 2011 run, which supports Rainbow House in Crewe, will start from
Beeston Market car park, near Tarporley at 10am.
The course travels near Beeston Castle and then onto Peckforton (which is
quite steep) before meandering through the Cheshire countryside.
Perfect for experienced runners and keep fit addicts, it will be a wonderful
spring warm up before the Marathon season begins. Advance entry will be
£10 (£12.00 on the day) and there will be running vests for all participants.
Professional chip timing will also be in place and water will be provided.
There will be prizes for the first men and women in each age category.
There will be 1k and 10m races for small children along with a bouncy
castle.

DIVORCE
Local solicitors Oliver & Co deal with all aspects of family law.
Below are some of the most common questions relating to divorce but if you have any other
questions about family law issues feel free to telephone or arrange a meeting with
Alison Wright, Helen Varty or Corinna Phillips

1. How long will it take to obtain a divorce?

From issuing your petition for divorce to obtaining the Decree Absolute which dissolves your
marriage can take approximately 4 to 6 months but this is dependent on your partner not
defending the petition and replying to your petition within the given time table. If your partner
fails to cooperate we will take steps to prove service of the petition upon your partner to ensure
your divorce can proceed.

2. How much will it cost me?

We will fix the cost of your divorce so that you know exactly how much it will cost you. You may
have the option of seeking costs from your partner.

3. How do I resolve who stays in the house and how much income, capital and
pension I will receive?
You and your partner are required to provide full and frank disclosure of your income, capital
assets and pension provision. With this information, we can advise you what you are likely
to achieve by way of settlement. We will prepare the necessary Court documents to record
any agreement reached to ensure the agreement is legally binding and enforceable. To help
negotiations you can attend mediation or enter the collaborative process. Our aim is to keep
matters as amicable as possible for you and to avoid Court proceedings. If however you can not
agree or your partner will not provide the information required, you can issue Court proceedings
to resolve this matter.

4. What happens if we can’t agree arrangements for

our children?
If possible it is better to agree between you where the
children live and how much contact the other parent has
with the children, if you cannot agree then you could both
attend mediation to facilitate discussions and assist you
in agreeing the arrangements. If that is not successful
then either one of you could make an application
to the court for a contact or residence order,
to decide where the child will live or to deal
with a specific issue, for example where the
child goes to school. Child maintenance would
also need to be paid to the parent who has the
full time care of the child. This can be dealt
with through the Child Support Agency. The
amount depends on your income and how
many children you have, and also depends on
the number of overnight stays you have the
children for.

FOOTBALL TALK...
TARPORLEY VICS FC

Vic’s struggles continue

Tarporley Victoria FC’s First Team continues
to struggle with fixture postponements as well
as some disappointing results when games are
played.
The League cup quarter final was switched to
the Flacca after twice being postponed at Club
AZ’s home ground. Both teams struggled against
the blustery conditions however Tarporley Vics
went into a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal in the first
half by Ed Pattinson. After the break Club AZ
equalised and the game then went into extra time
with the score remaining 1-1. In this closely fought
encounter the second goal was vital and shortly
after Tarporley Vics missed an opportunity Club
AZ found the back of the net. Club AZ’s third goal
came in the final minute as Tarporley Vics pushed
everyone forward to try to claim an equaliser that
was deserved from this much improved team
performance.
Tarporley Vics First Team’s only other fixture was
Keeper Paul Gregory
a 5-1 defeat to League leader’s Pilkington FC.
Tarporley Vics First Team needs to have a consistent run of fixtures to build on their
endeavour & spirit and help secure First Division status this season.
Tarporley Vics Reserves have also played two games since the last report and these
matches have resulted in impressive victories in the Crewe & District Premier League. The
victory over MMU 1st team was especially pleasing and Tarporley Vics Reserves are now
in the frame for one of the top positions in the League, with eight wins and three draws
recorded from thirteen League games to date.

Juniors set for action

The requests made in previous editions of Tarporley Talk have finally paid dividends!
Tarporley Vics are pleased to announce the formation of a Junior Section within
the Club. The team plans to start playing fixtures in the South Cheshire League
next season in the under-11 age group and have already started training at Brook
Farm every Saturday morning under the stewardship of Andrew Moreton and Dave
Windsor. If anyone is interested in forming a squad in other junior age groups,
please speak to any of the Vics Committee or contact us at info@tarporleyvics.
co.uk. Tarporley Vics FC is a Charter Standard Club governed by the English Football
Association and we can provide all the help and advice required to establish a team
in junior football.

TARVIN Tennis Club’s AGM was held at the
Vicar’s Cross Golf Club.
Chairman Rob Millar said that much
tennis had been played, despite a slight
fall in membership, with six teams
playing in both the summer and
winter leagues. Friendly mid-week
tennis had continued throughout
the year, with different groups
enjoying the courts on Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday mornings
and afternoons, in addition to the
regular junior sessions and club
evening sessions from Easter to
mid-September.
The club huts had been repainted
and over £5000 had been spent
on a thorough maintenance project
on the artificial grass courts. On the
negative side the club had suffered a few
instances of minor vandalism.
Mens Captain Keith Barker said the
year’s results were not quite as pleasing Secretary

Peckforton & Beeston WI

The first meeting of 2011 was held on February 2nd when Ann Mayfield’s talk was
entitled ‘Hippotherapy’. This is a form of physical and occupational therapy in which
a therapist uses the characteristic movements of a horse to provide carefully graded
motor and sensory input. With repetition and experience the nervous system is able to
create new pathways in the brain giving increased muscle flexibility and balance which
other therapies often fail to do. Films taken at Clwyd Special Riding Centre were shown with disabled
patients enjoying this therapy and making very marked improvements over a period of time. Everyone
agreed that this is a unique charity run locally by committed volunteers who deserve our support.
Names were taken for theatre trips to see ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ at Crewe’s Lyceum Theatre in March
and a play called ‘5 at 50’ at the Royal Exchange in April. The walking group will be taking another
guided tour of Chester including the Cathedral and St Johns Church on February 14th. Our March
meeting should attract all keen gardeners when the BBC Gardener of the Year - Sue Beesley, will give
a talk, and on April 6th Penny Dean’s topic is ‘Small in a Tall Person’s World’.
The book club continues to meet every 6 weeks whilst a few other members are enjoying weekly
French conversation.
New members are always welcome to meetings at the Peckforton Village Rooms on the first
Wednesday of the month starting at 7.30 pm.
