DISTILLED LIQUOR
PROCESS DESCRIPTION
Distilled spirits are created by cooking
various types of grains in water to
convert grain starches to sugars. This
sugar is then mixed with yeast and
converted to alcohol in a fermentor.
The fermented liquid is then distilled
to purify the liquid and concentrate the
alcohol to an acceptable level. This
distilled product is then redistilled to
add flavorings. The final distilled
product is mixed with water to obtain
the proper alcohol content for
bottling.
PROCESS PROBLEMS
Carbon bleed through from old
or poorly maintained carbon
filters can cause discoloration in
final product leading to rejection
by quality control. Also, poor
quality water blended in at the
bottling stage can lead to quality
and taste problems in the product.

PECO SOLUTIONS
To prevent bleed through carbon from
entering the final product prior to
bottling, Peco recommends the
ComPleat Polypropylene pleated style
filter. The 0.5 micron ComPleat wil
catch carbon fines which are typically
between 0.5 micron and 1 micron in
size.
Water used to dilute the final product
to maintain proper alcohol content can
be filtered with the ComPleat Poly-
propylene 0.75 micron filter followed
by a membrane style filter. This water
can, also, be supplied by a Reverse
Osmosis system which utilizes Peco
ComPleat filters as prefilters to RO
membranes.
