Ques- Why do employees join unions?

 A union is an organization that works as a mediator between the unionized

members and the organization who employs them. The basic goal of the
union is to empower workers by allowing them to collectively bargain to get
better conditions at work and other advantages.

There are many reasons of an employee joining the union which are mentioned as
below;
 By joining a Union, employee gets protection from discrimination and also
includes just cause protection which states that the employee can’t be fired by
the employer without a justifiable reason.
 If the employee is mistreated at workplace, he may get support of the skilled
representative from the Union. Unions will preserve the rights and will offer
the protection for the employees.
 Unions strives for giving equal rights and fair compensation to the unionized
members. Their mission is to promote equality in each and every aspect and
eliminate discrimination on the basis of gender, sexual identity and
impairment.
 Employees generally joins union because they believe that union could
provide all the necessary support to ensure maintaining a healthy relationship
between employees and the employers at the workplace.

Ques- Have you ever belonged to a union?

 Yes, I was enrolled with Union at my previous workplace in New Zealand

Ques- If you did, do you think union membership benefited you?

 Yes, joining a Union had benefited me at my previous workplace in New

Zealand.

Ques- Why or why not?

Having a Union membership had benefited me at my previous workplace in terms

of getting a fair salary package and I also believed that enrolling with Union will be
an advantage if I face discrimination at workplace there will be representative for the
support. A union also plays a significant role in terms of maintaining equality at
workplace.
