CSE 313: HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND VICTIMOLOGY Week 1-2

Most human behavior results from a combination of many factors. For example, a person might
shout someone insulted him. This resulted from more than just the insult. It may because partly
by being tired or hungry or by having been hurt by someone similar to the person doing the
insulting.

There are various specialists in many field that study human behavior. Psychologists study
individuals or small group of people in controlled games or tasks to understands many human
aspects of human behavior, including the reasons for people feelings, thoughts, and motives.
This studies help establish principles that can be used to explain, predict, and modify behavior.

Educational researchers study how people behave in the classroom. In sociology, behavioral
research focuses mainly on the behavior of people in large groups and social institution, such as
business, churches, governments and hospital. An anthropologist may live in an insulated
community to study the behavior patterns of a whole group through observation.

Factors Affecting Human Behavior

1. Heredity
Heredity is determined by genes. Genes are segments of cell structure called
chromosomes by which parents pass traits to their offspring. Genes are composed of
chemical substances that give the offspring a tendency towards certain physical and
behavioral qualities. In a way, genetic and environmental influences are intertwined in a
persons behavioral development.

2. Environment
This consists of the conditions and factors that surround and influence an individual
which can cause certain behavior patterns. This is also the aggregate of surrounding
things, condition, or influences affecting human behavior.

3. Learning
This is the process by which behavior changes as a result of experience or
practice.learning takes place constantly because people are always being given new
problems to solve or are being shown new ways of doing things. And the ability to learn
is possessed by humans, animals and some machines. To that end, learning may be
viewed as a process, rather than a collection of factual and procedural knowledge.

Classification of Human Behavior

Human behavior is often classified as Voluntary and Involuntary
1. Voluntary behavior – that a person is naturally contributed to an action. it alson means
that you have a free will and able to make a decision to take specific action.
2. Involuntary behavior – describes a reflex or action done without conscious control or
will.
