1. Frequency
After riding a roller coaster, 110 people were surveyed. 18 screamed zero times, 29
screamed once, 17 screamed twice, 18 screamed three times, and 28 screamed four or
more times. What is the relative frequency of people who screamed only once? Round
your answer to the nearest whole percent.
A group of 9 people have ages of 3, 4, 12, 12, 15, 29, 34, 44, and 63 years.
1. What is the mean of their ages?
2. What is the median of their ages?
3. What is the mode of their ages?
4. What is the range of their ages?
A group of 20 cats is ordered from lightest to heaviest. Furball has a weight of 6.5 lb,
the highest weight in the first quartile. If four new cats with weights between 5 and 6 lb
are added to the group, which quartile will Furball be in then, and how many cats in his
quartile will be heavier than him?
4. Standard deviation

260 people were surveyed and asked whether they liked licorice, or chocolate, or both.
80 said they liked licorice, and 250 said they liked chocolate. How many people liked
both flavors?
8. Permutations
1. How many ways can the letters of the word TULIP be arranged?
2. How many ways can five people be arranged in a row of five chairs if one of the people
will not sit in the middle chair?
9. Combinations
A football team has 11 people on the field at one time. If their coach asks them to take a
square-dancing class, how many different pairs can the team form?

1. In 2012, the number of users of Website A were what percent of the number of users
in 2015?
2. In 2014, the revenue for Website A was approximately what percent greater than in 2011?

4. 60
4. Standard deviation
Explanation: Since about 2/3 of the data will be within 1 standard deviation above or
below the mean for a normally distributed random variable, the answer is about 1/3,
or 33.3%, since the area under the curve between 3 and 4 shows everything within one
standard deviation below the mean.

Licorice Chocolate
L B C
In the diagram, L represents the people who only like licorice, B represents those who like
both flavors, and C represents the people who only like chocolate.
Since we have multiple unknowns, we need multiple equations to solve.
Equation 1: L + B = 80 (There are 80 total people who like licorice.)
Equation 2: C + B = 250 (250 people like chocolate.)
Equation 3: L + B + C = 260 (There are 260 people in total.)
Notice that in equation 3, we have a B + C. Looking at equation 2, we see that C + B
= 250. Replace the B + C in equation 3 with 250, and get equation 3: L + 250 = 260.
Subtracting 250 from both sides results in L = 10.
