ENGAGEMENT
in our school

Communication
Using a variety of platforms to communicate and engage with
parents and families:
School Facebook Page: to post announcements, reminders, events and
photos of learning and special events
Monthly Newsletters: to share important information, reminders of what
is happening in the school, outside community information and a
message from the principal
Classroom communication apps: Remind or Seesaw apps are being used
to communicate with families, share student learning and post reminders

Being Avaliable
Meeting families where they are at:
Having an open door policy where parents and families are welcomed into
the building and can talk with teachers or administrators about any
thoughts or concerns they have whenever is convenient for them
Having a SWIS worker and translators on hand (through phone) to help
communicate with ELL families
Going above and beyond to help parents get connected with the school
Using vocabulary and words that parents can understand
Being available to parents through email, messaging and phone calls in
and out of school hours

Building Relationships
Have teachers be real, honest and down to earth with parents and families
Teachers showing empathy, understanding and being supportive to all
families in every walk of life
Staff developing somewhat of a friendship with parents and families of
children
Promoting to parents that the relationship between teacher, child and
families is the absolute key to educational success now and in years to
come

More Opportunity
Have more activities and events where families can come into the building,
interact with teachers and see their children's learning
Ask for more parent volunteers and create more opportunity for parents to
come into the school to help read, do art projects or share their knowledge
and experience
Have more whole school events to build the entire school community
