SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM: THE AROROY

NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

Abstract- The study was conducted to determine the performance experience of Aroroy
National High School in its Senior High School Program. The study made use of the
descriptive-analytical method to determine the profile of Aroroy National High School in
terms of senior high school program, profile of their teachers, problems encountered in the
implementation, level of teaching effectiveness and the suggestions offered to improve the
implementation of the said program. The main data gathering instrument was the
questionnaire checklist. Interview and observations were also conducted by the researcher.
The data were obtained from seventy respondents of Aroroy National High School. Finding
revealed that National High School offers four strands under Academic Track where
General Academic Strand have the highest number of enrolees; majority of Senior High
School teachers are between 27-28 years old, education degree holders with complete
academic requirements leading to a master’s degree, Social Studies, English and
Mathematics majors, with no national certificate, hold Teachers I and III positions
respectively, have permanent appointment status, have not attended various trainings, have
5-8 teaching loads, and have very satisfactory performance. Senior high school teachers
encountered “less serious” parent-related problems, teacher-related problems, “serious”
school facilities and equipment-related problems and curriculum-related problems while
senior high school students encountered “serious” problem; Senior High School teachers
of Aroroy National High School are effective in terms of teaching as perceived by
themselves. Suggestions to improve the implementation of Senior High School program
include: sufficient trainings along SHS subjects be provided to the teachers, sufficient
books, modules, and other reference materials be provided, and sufficient fund be allocated
by the government.
