Abstract (Abstract): India Business Week had a story on how the festive season is a good time for voluntary
organisations to raise funds by selling cards and other gift items. It went on to talk about how these
organisations had learnt that trade, rather than aid, is perhaps a better way of raising resources. The story
talked to a whole plethora of people from organisations such as CRY and Dastakar to a representative of
Bombay Store - the upmarket departmental store in South Mumbai which stocks products made by some of
these voluntary agencies.
People from the voluntary organisations pointed out how things were rather different in this sector. According to
Ms. Shila Mittal of The CRY Shop, "A lot of suppliers are smaller voluntary organisations. They do not have the
financial capability to give credit. Some of them even require to be paid in advance so that they can source the
raw materials. You need to be sensitive to these kind of needs." Another representative of an organisation that
helps rag- picker kids learn skills like making bags said that corporate buyers initially had to be convinced that
their products were more expensive because they were made by kids who were liable to make mistakes and
waste some material. Once these buyers were convinced, he said, they kept on coming for more.
The most specious argument of the week came from former the Law Minister, Mr. H. R. Bharadwaj. He was part
of a panel on Vir Sanghvi's A Question of Answers on Star Plus on Monday. The discussion was about the Lok
Pal Bill mooted by the BJP Government and whether the Prime Minister should or should not be included in its
purview.

Corporate gifting has become a trend

Author: Mathur, Priyanka

ProQuest document link

Full text: Oct. 9--With massive globalisation gripping the world, the Indian economy has opened its doors to
several international corporates. Once business alliances have been formed, maintaining them is equally
important, and that's when corporate gifting steps into the picture. Corporate gifting is a nice way of maintaining
older clients and indirectly attracting new clients. It is a way of telling the clients that they are thought of even on
special occasions. Corporate gifts can also be given to company employees as a gesture of goodwill. And as
the festive season in India is steadily gaining momentum, this is the ideal time to present gifts to business
partners and colleagues.
Depending on the budgets set, the kind of corporate gifts can range from baskets of imported Belgium
chocolates to Indian mithais and namkeens, to branded pens, like Mont Blancs and Watermans, or even fancy
dinner sets. The choices are plenty. A lot of companies get their logos engraved on the gifts they send.
Varun Joshi, who works for a company in Navi Mumbai, says that during the festive season, his company gifts
all the employees a momento in glass.
"For the last three years that I've been here, we have always received a gift from our bosses, especially during
Diwali. Last year, I got a very nice cut glass vase and the year before that, a fancy glass chess set, which I have
now arranged as a decorative item in my living room. This, along with the annual bonus we get, is a nice
gesture from the company."
Vinay Shinde, who works at a senior level for an export house in Mumbai, says, "Our company is a medium-
sized unit, but each of us contribute a small amount during the festive season. Every year, we order more than
25 glass pieces, and end up getting a discount, so it works out cheaper for us as well. The saved up money is
used to have a small party at work. Last year, we gave our employees glass coasters, with the company logo
engraved on them. "
A gift store owner from a gift shop located in Bandra, says, "We have several customers from the corporate
sector, who we attend to. Business is usually good for us, as they end up buying products on a large-scale,
especially during the festive season or during a special occasion of the company, like an anniversary. So, we
also end up making custommade products for them."
So this festive season, surprise your internal and external customers with customised visiting card-holders,
pens, watches, bags, chocolates, and think about the box it is in! With this gesture, your relationship with your
business partners will only grow stronger with time.

Full text: Prepaid Expo--CashStar, a digital gifting and incentives company, said that it has unveiled eCorporate
Incentives, the industry's first B2B digital gifting solution.
In a release, the Company noted that eCorporate Incentives enables companies to "bulk" order highly-
personalized digital gift cards from retailers that can be immediately sent to recipients via e-mail.
The B2B incentives market, estimated at $25-70B, has begun shifting to prepaid cards and eCorporate
Incentives is the next logical step. With eCorporate Incentives, companies can now manage bulk buys through
an easy-to-use Web interface simply by importing or inputting recipients, entering personalized messages, and
selecting the card designs and dollar amounts for each. These cards can even be co-branded with the
corporation's logo on the retailer's gift card. Cards are delivered via e-mail for recipients to use online or in-
store.

easy way for purchasing and sending digital gift cards in bulk," said David Stone, co-founder and CEO of

of solution, which is evident by the strong interest and early adoption we are experiencing from retail clients. Gift
cards are rapidly becoming the incentive of choice and CashStar's ability to deliver on the promise of near
instant gratification for incentives and rewards is unique to our platform."

Buoyed by continued purchase and purchase frequency among higher-income consumers and growing food

and healthy growth through 2016. Across food gifting categories, food gifting marketers are more than meeting

everyday needs and wants, and even striving to meet health and diet needs. But in a culture increasingly aware
of food safety and health issues, our survey results suggest that consumers may require additional
reassurances before moving ahead with a food gift purchase. And the new battlefield involves harnessing social
media (such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest) to interact with, educate, and build loyalty among brand users.
Some companies are out in front in this regard, while others will need to catch up. More comprehensively, report
coverage does the following:
Includes a market size and forecast for consumer and corporate food gifting.
Evaluates food gifting opportunities by occasion/event, self-gifting, and social media applications.
Via proprietary survey analysis, assesses food gifters, including whom they purchase food gifts for (i.e. mother,

reports receiving food gifts. To shed light on each of these perspectives, we trend 2010-2014 proprietary

Via proprietary survey analysis, assesses food gifters according to the types of food gifts they purchase for
themselves and for others, as well as the types of occasions for which food gifts are purchased. In each case,
we trend 2010, 2012 and 2014 proprietary consumer data.

and why they do not purchasing specialty food gifts.
Provides insight on consumer online, phone and mail ordering in general and with respect to gourmet gift
baskets; and, via more than 15 retail distribution options, assesses where consumers have purchased food gifts
during the past 12 months.

The return of corporate gifting?

Author: Baker, Hannah; Dunnett, Richard; Hassan, Behiye; Koch, Christian; Maxwell, Chris; Scott, Nick

ProQuest document link

Abstract: After several false dawns, it would seem that the crisis is becoming a little more distant in the UK's
rear-view mirror. By the close of this year, the UK is expected to outperform the other G7 economies, with 2014
GDP growing by more than 3%. Now could be the right time to show a little more marked seasonal goodwill to
those clients, suppliers and colleagues who have been so crucial to business growth over the past 12 months.
Judging the right type and value of gift to send can be a sensitive decision, though -- not least when end-of-year
deadlines are pressing and there is so little time to properly consider it. This article takes a look at this year's
offerings from businesses that offer valuable and time-saving corporate gifting solutions, plus a selection of
other end-of-year gift ideas.

Full text: Headnote

Gift special
After a period of understandable restraint for business leaders, it could be time to reward clients and colleagues
more generously this Christmas - with a little help from the experts
The 'G' in GFC, of course, stood for 'global' [financial crisis] - and not even Santa's HQ on the northernmost
point of the planet has been immune from it, if the holiday gifts exchanged between business peers since 2008
is anything to go by.
For about half a decade, flimsy branded notebooks, bland key-rings and bottles of vaguely quaffable plonk have
been arriving on desks around mid-December: not just as part of a cautious money-saving drive by the donors,
but also due to a new corporate culture in which lavish expenditure, quite rightly, became somewhat

06 July 2016 Page 9 of 22 ProQuest

stigmatised. Now, though, after several false dawns, it would seem that the crisis is becoming a little more
distant in the UK's rear-view mirror. In the middle of last year, the Office for National Statistics claimed that the
country's GDP had grown, over four years of recovery since the middle of 2009, by just over one per cent a year
- a pretty limp performance given that the average since the 1950s has been around 2.5 per cent. By the close
of this year, though, the UK is expected to outperform the other G7 economies, with 2014 GDP growing by
more than three per cent.
So, could now be the right time to show a little more marked seasonal goodwill to those clients, suppliers and
colleagues who have been so crucial to business growth over the past 12 months?
Judging the right type and value of gift to send can be a sensitive decision, though - not least when end-of-year

CLDMLQETTM ETIQUETTE
How to avoid offending overseas business partners when buying a gift
JARAN The Japanese word for 'four' sounds like the word for 'death', so buying its tetraphobic citizens gifts in
quadruple-sized packs, or with the number emblazoned across them, is considered unlucky.
INDIA Want to buy that friendly client a leather handbag or wallet? Be careful - it could be seen as disrespectful
to a Hindu's sacred cow.
MIDDLE EAST Presents containing alcohol, including perfumes and even Dijon mustard, should be avoided.
BRAZIL Giving someone of the opposite sex a present may be viewed as an attempted romantic gesture.
CHINA Clocks or watches are seen as symbols of time passing (and therefore death), especially by the
Cantonese.
THEBRWaVACT
Five things you need to know about the act, which came into force in 2011

06 July 2016 Page 13 of 22 ProQuest

* A corporate Christmas gift will not necessarily fall foul of the Bribery Act The act isn't there to criminalise
genuine hospitality, corporate gifts and other proportionate business expenditure. As David Green, director of
the Serious Fraud Office, has said: "The sort of bribery we would be investigating would not be tickets to
Wimbledon or bottles of champagne".
* Ensure you have a written gift/ hospitality policy. Every company will have different levels of risk, particularly
those that deal with foreign public officials, so any policy should ensure that the risks to the particular company
have been properly assessed.
* Train your staff. Under the corporate offence of failing to prevent bribery, its a defence to show that your
company had adequate procedures in place.
* Be transparent. Concealment is a factor prosecutors may consider when assessing whether a gift or
hospitality falls foul of the Bribery Act.
* If in doubt, seek legal advice. A convicted individual is likely to face a substantial custodial sentence. Financial
penalties and debarment from competing for public contracts under the Public Contracts Regulations 2006 may
also be enforced.
