1. Discuss the continuity and differentiability of the function f (t) at t = −1,


where (

2. Use implicit differentiation to help you find the equation of the tangent for the
equation
x2 (x2 − 4) = y 2 (y 2 − 5)

at the point B = (0, 5).
3. The following are the parametric equations for the motion of an object:

x(t) = t sin (3t2 + 2), y(t) = t2 ln (−3t).

Find the slope of the curve followed by the object as a function of t.

4. The equation of a circle C is given by x2 + y 2 = 4. Find the point on C that


is closest to the point (−1, 3).

5. Given,
f (x) = x4 − 3x2 + x
Find the intervals on which f (x) is (i) increasing (ii) decreasing (iii) concave
up (iv) concave down. Also find the x coordinates of all inflection points.
