Cyber crime - Any criminal offense that involves the use of electronic communication or information

technology, including electronic device, computer, internet is called cyber crime.


It covers crimes such as phishing, credit card fraud, illegal downloading, industrial espionage, cyber bullying,
cyber stalking, cyber terrorism etc.

Cyber Bullying - It is when someone uses a modern technology as like cell phone, internet, email, social
networks to harass, demean, embarrass or intidimate someone else. It is basically the crime committed by
the teens as well for making fun or and other kids can also join in it in making fun of someone.

Cyber Stalking - This is a kind of harrassment where victim is subjected to barrage of online messages, email.
Typically stalker user internet to stalk.
A cyber stalker even dores these to trouble his/her victim-
a. Collect all information about victim such as name, family background contact nos. etc.
b. Stalker may post things on sites posing that victim is posting those.
c. People from differenet corners can call the victim.
d. subscribe the email account of victim to illegal websites.
e. Stalker make contact with victim through email having friendly or threating messages.

Reporting a cybercrime - It is similar to reporting a crime of other kind of offence. To report -


1. local police station can be approached for filling compliant.
2. E-FIR can also be made for filling complaint.

CERT(Computer Emergency Response Team), Department of Electronics and Information Technology &
Ministry of communication and Information Technology provides guidelines for preventing cybercrimes.
1. Collection and analysis of cyber incidents
2. Forecast and alerts of cyber security probable incidents.
3. Provides emergency measures for handling cyber security incidents.
4. It issues guidelines, advisories relating to information technology.

If someone is victim of cybercrime the first step is to report it to the cybercrime branch of LEA (Law
Enforcement Agency) or to any police station of the locality. Further LEA approaches CERT fro getting
information related to technical analysis.

1. Visit www.cert-in.org.in
2. Click on incident reporting link and download reporting form.
3. Fill the details and send it to CERT-In through email id – incident@cert-in.org.in
