1 - Introduction: General Information about Components, Nozzles and
Adapters
1-1 www.asm-smt.com
Job Guide Structure
This Job Guide is divided into separate chapters that deal with various different component groups. The first column on
each page, "Components", shows the component shape details for the individual components and the name of the
corresponding GF file.
Simply search for the component to be placed (or the component shape), to find out which is the appropriate nozzle.
NOTICE
The component shape file names correspond to the original file names from the GF Editor of the programming
system.
The four main columns Placement head C&P20 A/M, CPP (internal and external camera), C&P20 P/M2/P2 and
Twin Head show the nozzles to be used with the component shape(s) for each of the placement heads.
1-2 www.asm-smt.com
NOTICE
When using the SIPLACE CPP, components can either be centered with the internal head camera or with an
external stationary camera (P&P mode). Centering with the internal head camera uses the camera type SST 30
for components up to 27 mm x 27 mm. The external stationary camera type SST 33 is used for components up
to a size of 50 mm x 40 mm.
For some nozzles you can use alternative nozzles. These are marked with a dashed frame.
1-3 www.asm-smt.com
Nozzle Series and Color Coding
The nozzles are classified in various nozzle series. The nozzle series can be recognized by the hundred or thousand digit
of the type number.
The nozzle series 5xx is marked by colored dots, everything else with engraved number codes.
1-4 www.asm-smt.com
Nozzle series 1xxx: Examples:
These nozzles are used on the SIPLACE C&P20 A/M.
All nozzles in this series have a 4-digit number code on the
top outer side.
1-5 www.asm-smt.com
Nozzle series 28xx: Examples:
These nozzles are used on the SIPLACE CPP.
All nozzles in this series have a 4-digit number code on the in-
side.
The letter I or E in the allocated GF name marks the use of a
head with an internal or external camera.
NOTICE!
4xx and 6xx nozzles are of identical design and can
be used accordingly.
For example, a 4004 nozzle is mechanically identical to
.
a 6004 nozzle.

0° Description of Components
In order to work with component shapes which have uniform definitions, standard components are described using four
specific rules. This is known as the "0° description" position, which allows you to precisely define the pickup angle during
placement.
To describe the component shape of a component, the dimensions should always be taken from the corresponding data
sheet. Make sure that the component is always described as viewed from above.
The display area of the Component Shape Editor always shows the 0° description of the component. This zero degree
origin of the coordinate system is always shown in the center of the CS Editor display area. The X axis points to the right
and the Y axis points upwards. The center of the component generally corresponds to the origin of the coordinate system.
Rule 1 defines the alignment of the component sides in the X or Y directions.
Rule 1: A nozzle with rectangular suction surface is aligned with its longer side along the X axis. The component
X axis is parallel to the nozzle X axis, when the nozzle picks up the component properly.
When picking up a component, the component X axis always points in the same direction as the long side of the nozzle
(exception: special nozzles with 90° rotation/asymmetrical nozzles in wider angles, specific to certain applications).
1-7 www.asm-smt.com
The X axis of the component does not necessarily have to be the long side of the component.
For example, if there are holes through the component, the nozzle will have to attach at right angles (see fig. (4) case,
nozzle = ).
Rule 2: Pin 1 is in the bottom, left corner or at the center of the component's left side. In the case of diodes, the an-
ode (+) must point in the positive X direction.
1-8 www.asm-smt.com
Rule 3: The side with the most leads is at the bottom.
Rule 4: If the component has a special feature, such as a wider lead, this special feature will be at the bottom.
1-9 www.asm-smt.com
Correct Assignment of Nozzle – Component for SIPLACE C&P and SIPLACE CPP
To prevent any detection problems with small structures, the component must be in the focus range (area of focus) of the
camera.
The focus range of the standard cameras SST23 and SST41 of the SIPLACE C&P20 A/P/M/M2 is between 9.4 and
11.4 mm (i.e. 10.4 +/‑ 1 mm).
The focus range of the standard camera SST48 of the SIPLACE C&P20 P2 is between 9.7 and 11.7 mm
(i. e. 10.7 +/‑ 1 mm).
The focus range of the standard cameras of the SIPLACE CPP is between 13.3 and 17.3 mm (i. e. 15.3 +/‑ 2 mm).
NOTICE
When selecting the correct nozzle for a component, check whether the total value of nozzle length plus compo-
nent height is within this range.
Example:
Nozzle length L = 9.400 mm
Component height H = 1.200
mm
Total = 10.600 mm

Measuring nozzles for the SIPLACE MeasuringFeeder X
Small chip components of the types 0201, 0402, 0603, 0805, 1206, and 1210 can typically not be measured using a
standard nozzle, because their contacts extend to the top side. The available standard nozzles usually have a low resist-
ance. If such a nozzle touches one or both contacts of the component, then a fraction of the measurement current can
flow through the nozzle. This falsifies the measuring result. To avoid this problem, there is a set of special nozzles avail-
able that have tips with very high resistance.
NOTICE
Special measuring nozzles in SIPLACE Pro
The special nozzles for measuring small chip components are not part of the standard nozzle set in SIPLACE Pro.
They need to be defined in the Nozzles Editor. Please read the SIPLACE Pro documentation about how to do this.
