Home Work/Assignment 1: Visual Analysis – Promotional Medium


Theme: Advertisements that offers a service or promoting a product and advertising a brand.
Instruction:
1. Students are asked to take 3 clear shots/pictures/ photos of a promotional medium or advertisements.

1 picture/photograph of the following category.


 Product Advertisement
 Service Advertisement
 Brand Advertisement

i. The pictures must have Location Tags and day or Date it was taken. – enable your Location Tag feature of your phone or
device before taking the pictures.
ii. The promotional medium pictures will be Categorized into- products, services and brand
iii. When taking pictures, students should apply compositional rule (rule of thirds, photography techniques and design
concepts).
3. The students need to copy and paste the pictures in a word document.
4. Underneath the images,
a. Students will then identify the characteristics of intended target audience of the ad.
b. Student will evaluate the design of the Ad by identifying the characteristics of the design concepts
i. Identify the Elements and principles of design and their characteristics to become an effective ad.
ii. Are there any changes you’d like to recommend to make the design more effective? (To add to remove, to change
and why)
 SHIPPING SERVICE

a. Target Audience:
 Demographic:
- Students, Workers
- Lazy/ busy personality
- Teenagers and adult – 12 to 60 yrs. old
- Male and female
- Medium/ average income
- Single – married
 Psychographic:
-People who are busy don’t have time to drive and buy food at the store.
-People who are lazy don’t want to go out.
-People who wants fast food.
 Geographic:
- People who lives in the city and rural area
- Students and adult
- Local
 Behavioral:
-Buy things online

i. Characteristic of design concept mentioned
 Elements of design: - color – text – space – form

 Principles of design: - emphasis/ focus – balance/proportion – variety

-The use of the element of color Red of the text on a White background of the ad creates focus on the
“shipping service”.
- Red provides a Excitement feeling and White provides Health feeling. (Variety of color) When they
combined correctly, it creates attraction to the customers.
-The placement of the motorbike (form) on the lower-left part of the ad creates Proportion.
ii. Recommendations
- They should add the time that they work under the phone number. So that the customers can call in
the right time.
 BRAND

-People who wants a new household items for their home.

b. Evaluation:

 Elements of design: - color – text – line

 Principles of design: - emphasis/ focus – balance/proportion – variety

-The use of the element of color White of the text on a Brown background of the ad creates focus on
the brand.
- White provides a Simplicity feeling and Brown provides Warm feeling . (Variety of color) When they
combined correctly, it creates attraction to the customers.
-The way they separate into 4 vertical same size parts by lines creates Proportion.
ii. Recommendations

- Should add a slogan, to make the customers remember easier.

-Suitable for ppl drink less sugar and normal

b. Evaluation:
i. Characteristic of design concept mentioned
 Elements of design: - color – text – space – form - line
 Principles of design: - emphasis/ focus – balance/proportion – variety – contrast
-The use of the element of color White of the text on a Blue and Green background of the ad creates
focus on the information they gave the customers. “2 choices for a substantial energy”
- Blue provides a Strength feeling and Green provides Health feeling. (Variety of color) Blue is a lighter
color compare to dark green. It used for less sugar product in this ad. It can trick the customers into
thinking that the less sugar one is lighter than the normal sugar.
-The placement of milk bottles (form) on both sides and a line between them in the middle of the ad
creates Balance. (Symmetrical).
ii. Recommendations
- They should put the products in the middle of the advertisement.
- Because it easier for the customers to notice their new product. They just need to look at the middle
instead of reading the info and then look to the sides.
