Have you ever thought of the positive impact, the substantial economic and environmental

benefits one’s country would experience with the development of Green Construction?

According to the Unites States Green Building Council (2017), Green Construction is an attempt

to build with responsibility by reducing waste and help preserve the environment. It is an “earth-

friendly” alternative to the construction process. The term 'traditional build' is most often used to

describe a structure where the internal load bearing leaf of the walling is of masonry construction

and tied with stainless steel ties to an outer leaf of either block or brick. The word obsolete

means “out of date or no longer used or produced”

The oil prices have been increasing rapidly from the 1970s which stimulated significant research

and activity to improve energy efficiency and find renewable energy sources according to

Striepe, B (2012), as a result of this, the modern day building program was designed out of the

desire to construct more energy efficient and environmentally friendly buildings.

Although green construction is initially expensive, I concur that it will make traditional methods

of construction obsolete since it reduces waste and it is environmentally friendly.

Green construction reduces waste as it preserves the environment.

It adds social values to the individuals who live or work in green buildings.

Moreover it is economical to operate over a long period of time once it is completed.

Green Construction will continue to be the choice of modern day buildings as it phases out the

traditional method of construction.

The environment can be preserved with the implementation of green construction.

Greenhouse gas emissions can be significantly reduced by the building sector when compared to

other major emitting sectors. This emissions savings potential is said to be as much as 125

million metric tonnes of CO2 per year according to Les, K (2008). This can be corrected through

direct measures in buildings such as energy efficiency, fuel switching and the use of renewable

energy.

Green buildings produce 62% less greenhouse gas emissions than average buildings and 51%

less potable water than if they had used the traditional method. World Green Building Council

(2016-2019).

Green buildings have been shown to consume 25 per cent less energy.

With the use of green construction, greenhouse emission will be reduced and less energy and

water will be consumed.

It adds social values, comfort and a clean atmosphere in which to operate.

The arrival of green construction stimulates health and comfort in the workplace.

Workers who occupy green and well ventilated offices have a 101 per cent increase in in their

brain function.

Employees in offices with windows slept an average of 46 minutes more per night

Better indoor air quality (low concentrations of CO2 and pollutants, and high ventilation rates)

can lead to improvements in performance of up to 8 per cent.

Traditional buildings aren’t the best and healthiest facilities for adding social values to anyone.
It generates new jobs and it is economical to operate after its construction.

Green Construction is economical due its low cost on utility bills.

Green building is projected to account for more than 3.3 million U.S. jobs by 2018.

Green buildings, whether new or renovated -command a seven per cent increase in assets value

over traditional buildings.

Do you think that traditional construction will ever prove more economical than

Green Construction?

Persons may argue that green construction generates high volumes of waste, but this waste is

reusable which makes it efficient. People may also argue that when working in a group reduces

production but social value will contribute many health benefits and the wellbeing of individuals.

Green construction has a high initial construction cost, however, over a long term it proves much

more economical than any other construction.

Though the initial cost of green construction is expensive, it is financially viable to invest in due

to its social values, economic and positive impact it will have on the environment which is very

responsible. Additionally, it recycles a large amount of waste during its construction which will

see the construction process requiring fewer materials throughout the lifespan of the project.

Theory of morality

Morality according to the (Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary & Thesaurus). It is a

personal or social set of standards for good or bad behavior and character, or the quality of being

right and honest.

Lawrence Kholberg has agreed with Piaget’s theory of moral development and would use his

story telling technique to inform persons of the stories involving moral dilemmas. He presented a

choice to be considered, for example, between the rights of some authorities and the needs of

some deserving individuals who are been unfairly treated.
