Green Construction Building Methods to Look for This Year

Whenever the word “green” appears in front of something, we all know it usually means it does

not harm the environment. This statement is very true, however, what most people do not know

is just how much going green is doing positively for the environment and economy, and how

much deeply thought out planning is required for “going green.”

Green building is a common term amongst the construction industry and has drawn more

attention in recent years. Green building methods go beyond reducing harm to the environment,

these methods of construction merge environmentally stable materials, labor methods, and long

term planning for buildings to protect and improve the quality of the planet and the landscape

surrounding each project.

In past decades, a big problem for the construction industry was the extensive use of non-

renewable resources and materials. Construction has taken a step towards using the material with

long term efficiency. This is not only a major benefactor to the environment but also a bang for

your buck. It is widely assumed that green building is more expensive, however, this is just a

misconception and not always the case.

The Importance of Sustainable

Construction

The Importance of Sustainable Construction

Sustainability means a lot in the construction business. It means ensuring that resources are being

used in an efficient way in our projects. It means considering the environmental impacts that are

created by the way we source materials and the processes we use to get the job done. It means

understanding our projects not just regarding the bottom line and the benefit to our business, but

also in terms of the impact on the environment, the community, and the world. The concept of

sustainability means asking ourselves the question “If everybody was doing this, what would the

end result be?”. This blog explores the importance of sustainability in construction, its major

influencers and how it relates to green construction.

What is Sustainable Construction?

The simplest way to understand sustainable construction is concerning who the stakeholders are

in a given project. If your firm is hired to construct a building, there are already several

stakeholders involved. The client, your firm and the local government that regulates construction
in that area are all stakeholders that will influence the process and outcomes of the project. If we

want a project to be sustainable, however, there are some other stakeholders that should be

considered.

First, we need to think about the community. If we build using a process that we know generates

a lot of toxic waste, we need to dispose of that somewhere. The people that live there could be

affected by that, so if we view those people as important stakeholders, we have to find a way to

construct that acknowledges that.

Second, we need to think about the environment. If our methodologies use excessive amounts of

non-renewable energy sources or produce a lot of waste, we may be hurting the environment. If

we value environmental preservation, it is crucial that we use methodologies that promote that,

or that we pursue other means of offsetting the harm we are doing by creating a benefit some

other way. Sustainable construction means that there are more stakeholders at play than just

those putting money into the project.

The Benefits of Green Building on

Employees – Improving Health and

Productivity

The Benefits of Green Building on Employees – Improving Health and Productivity

When we think about green building, we’re often interested in things like energy efficiency,

usage of sustainable materials and minimizing environmental impact during the construction

process. While those are all critical aspects of green construction, we often overlook how green

buildings actually benefit the people who work in them. This article discusses the design and

technological innovations that make green buildings safer and healthier for the people that live

and work inside them. We’ll also discuss some of the great benefits that healthier employees

provide when they are given the opportunity to work in a LEED certified, green building.
 Health Benefits of Green Building

What makes a healthy work environment? Experts in occupational health and safety have done

extensive research into the effects of indoor environmental quality in office buildings on

employee health, productivity, and well-being. Green buildings contain a number of innovations

that reflect present-day understanding of what constitutes a healthy work environment:

1. Improved Indoor Air Quality

 2. Aesthetic Pleasantness

Benefits of Healthy Employees

Classical economics tells us that if we want someone to do more work, we have to provide them

with a better incentive. However, organizations know that getting the best creative work from

people is not always linked to the size of the incentive that is available. Keeping employees

happy by providing them with an excellent indoor office environment is one of the best ways to

keep your employees feeling good and performing at their best.

 Healthy Employees Are Happy Employees

Nobody wants to see their employees walking into work with their heads down every day.

Disgruntled workers take all of their vacation, are more likely to phone in sick, don’t do their

best work and may be difficult to retain. Healthy employees take less vacation, are less likely to

call in sick, are more likely to be highly engaged with their work and will stay longer – that’s a

win for everybody!

 Healthy Employees Are More Productive

The aforementioned study found that employees who suffer from asthma and respiratory illness

could provide 1.75 additional hours of work each year thanks to health improvements achieved

by working in a green building. Interesting, those who reported having suffered from depression

and stress in the past might gain as many as 2.02 additional work hours per year. If we summate

all of those hours across all of the employees in an organization, it’s clear that there are huge

productivity gains associated with working in green buildings.

Question

Prepare a summary of three common articles.

Green construction is a building technique that has a positive impact on the environment

that has a positive impact on the environment and the economy. It goes beyond reducing harm to

the environment, as it merges environmentally stable materials, labour methods, and long term

planning for buildings to protect and improve the quality of the planet. It is very important that

government take steps to incentivize sustainability in construction, and that firms look to grow

profit in an environmentally and socially responsible way, moreover, green buildings aren’t just

about sustainable designs and construction, the innovations in improved air quality and aesthetics

create great physical and mental health benefits for those lucky enough to live and work in them.

The construction industry implementing more green building technique means that

everyone reaps the benefits, including the overall quality of the planet. These cost friendly and

efficient methods being seen more often in project plans will payoff for our planet in the long

run, as well as our fiscal economy moreover, More companies should be investing in green buildings

for their headquarters in order to maximize their human resources and retain healthier and happier

employees.
