Hello NCSD Parents and Legal Guardians,

Out of an abundance of caution and for transparency, we need to inform our school communities
there have been a number of individuals at multiple school sites who have tested positive for
COVID-19. Whether staff or student, these individuals were placed on quarantine status based on
CDC Guidelines. If an official from your school has not contacted you, your student was not
impacted.
Starting Monday, August 16, each school will contact their respective parents and guardians anytime a
student or staff member has been confirmed to be COVID-19 positive and placed on quarantine status.
This school communication will come through a robocall, email, and text message.

We have attached the Nye County School District’s COVID-19 Screening CDC Guidelines. Please take
some time to review these with your student.

It is imperative to keep your student home if they are experiencing any of the symptoms listed and
follow the provided NCSD COVID-19 Screening CDC Guideline.

The safety and well being of our students, staff, and community are at the forefront of our NCSD

COVID-19 SCREENING
CDC Guidelines
What To Do If
SYMPTOMATIC
1. Confirmed – You have Covid-19 (tested positive)
2. Suspected – have one or more of the following
symptoms
• Fever, chills, shivering/shaking
• Cough, sore throat
• Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
• Feeling unusually weak or fatigued
• New loss of taste or smell
• Muscle pain, headache, runny or congested
nose
• Diarrhea
(not all inclusive)
You Should:
All persons experiencing Covid-19 symptoms MUST be
tested within 48 hours. Test results MUST be
submitted to the health staff at your school.
IF YOU TEST POSITIVE
A. MUST self-quarantine at home for a minimum
of 14 days
AND
B. MUST meet ALL of the below:
• 24 hours with no fever without taking fever
reducing medication
• Continued improvement of cough or
shortness of breath if you had those
symptoms
The CDC discourages Confirmed Positives from retesting
because they will continue to have positive results for
several weeks even though they are not contagious.
Follow the requirements above.
CLOSE CONTACT
Defined as:
Being in contact within a 24 hour window to someone
prior to that person with a positive Covid-19 test result.
Close contact occurs between individuals:
• Living in the same household
• Being an intimate partner with
OR
• Spending 15 cumulative minutes (over any
period of time) within 6 feet of a person, with
or without a mask, who tests positive
• Having direct contact of bodily fluids and/or
secretions (sneezed on, coughed on, shared
utensils)
You Should:
If you have had Close Contact with someone described
above and you are NOT fully vaccinated, YOU MUST
SELF-QUARANTINE AT HOME FOR 14 DAYS TO SEE IF
ANY SYMPTOMS DEVELOP.
If you do not develop ANY symptoms, you can return to
work after 14 days
If you choose to be tested, you must wait until day 5 of
your quarantine.
If you test negative, you may return to work on day 8 of
your quarantine.
If you test positive, follow the guidelines under
SYMPTOMATIC and contact the health staff at your
school.
If you have been fully vaccinated and have been
exposed as described above, OR you have had COVID-
19 within the last 3 months and have recovered and
remain symptom free, you do not need to quarantine,
however, you MUST wear a mask indoors in public for
14 days after the exposure. It is recommended that
you get tested 3-5 days after the exposure.
