The 3 main organizations regulating taekwondo are

the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), World

Taekwondo and the ATA Martial Arts (previously American
Taekwondo Association).
The ITF serves as an institution where students may
learn the art of Taekwondo. World Taekwondo is a
Taekwondo governing body that focuses on rules and
regulations of Taekwondo competitions. The ATA Martial
Arts aims to teach students to put moves into
combinations, focus their techniques at a specific target,
learn distancing and gain self-control.
The major difference between the forms stems from
the characteristics – ITF is self-defense oriented, WTF is
sport oriented whereas ATA is self-improvement oriented.
