Mixtures consists of two or more substances combined but don’t have a definite
composition. Mixtures can be separated by physical means. For us to further understand
what mixtures are. Let us have this activity.
PROCEDURE
1. Prepare different kinds of mixtures by combining the given materials below. Stir all the
mixtures very well and observe what happens
a. A drop of cooking oil and 3 tbsp water in a plastic cup
b. Half tbsp of iodized salt and 10 tbsp water in a plastic cup
c. 1 tbsp of flour and 5 tbsp water in a plastic cup
d. 1 tbsp of sand and 10 tbsp water in a plastic cup
e. 1 tbsp of sand and a 1 tbsp of salt in a plastic cup
f. 2 tbsp water rubbing alcohol and 2 tbsp water in a plastic cup
2. Describe each mixture based on its appearance. Record your observations on the
table below

1. In which mixtures do you see the individual properties of the materials that you combined?
• I can see the individual properties of the materials I combined in sand and salt, in
water and flour, and in vinegar and cooking oil.
3. Did you use fixed proportion or the same amount of materials for each mixture that you
prepare?
• I used fixed proportions of the materials for each mixture.
5. Is there a chemical reaction or chemical change involve when materials are mixed together?
