a mixture of a beaten egg and mayonnaise. For Jean’s drink which is fresh milk, it is liquid.

1. a pinch of salt and pepper ✓
2. monggo and peanuts ✓
3. one tablespoon of powdered

juice and 1 glass of water
4. one tablespoon of coffee and

1 cup of warm water
5. 1 tablespoon of oil and a half-

filled glass of water

Explain

1. After mixing the materials in numbers 1, 2, and 5, I can still distinguish which is which because of
they are solid materials and water and oil differ in density. In numbers 3 and 4, the powdered
juice and coffee are already dissolved in the liquid.
2. I think some items dissolve and mixed completely while others did not because of their
properties. There are materials that can be dissolved in liquid such as juice and coffee while
there are some that cannot be because they are too hard.
3. For the materials that can still be distinguished, the phase of matter did not change. While for
the materials that cannot be distinguished anymore, their phase of matter changed from solid
tiny particles turned into completely liquid when mixed with a liquid.
4. There is no chemical reaction that took place because I just mixed the materials.
5. The process of combining different items is called “mixtures”.

1. The examples of uniform mixtures are a) sugar and water; b) salt and water; c) food color in water;
and d) perfume.

2. The examples of non-uniform mixtures are a) cookies; b) mixed vegetables; c) nuts and seeds; d)
pebbles and rocks; e) fruit salad; and f) ginataang bilo-bilo.

3. I think these items are important because they can be seen and are also part of our daily lives. There
are mixtures everywhere if we are going to observe everything around us.

4. Perfume is used in order for us to smell good and feel good about ourselves. Mixed vegetables are
good for our health and is essential for a healthy lifestyle. Nuts and seeds are also nutritious foods and
they can be served as snacks anytime.

Reflection

1. In this lesson, I learned that mixtures are in everywhere we go and there are two types of it
which are the homogenous and heterogeneous. Homogenous mixtures have single or uniform
appearance while heterogeneous mixtures have non-uniform or double appearance where you
can still distinguish the materials that you mixed unlike in single appearance.
2. I want to learn more on examples of homogenous and heterogeneous mixture that can be found
around the house, school, and even outside or in the surroundings.
