I. Procedure
A. Motivation
The teacher will flash pictures on the screen about mixtures and answer the question
below.
1. Do you like to eat halo-halo? If you were to prepare halo-halo, what ingredients
would you like to include in your halo-halo?
2. How about air and sea water? Are they also mixtures?
Yes, air contains nitrogen, argon gases, carbon dioxide and other gases.
While sea water contains chloride, sodium, magnesium, sulfur, calcium etc.
Activity A
Objective: Describe the appearance of mixtures.
Materials: 3 small bottles, Water, Sugar, Sandy soil and Flour
Procedure:
1. Label the bottles A,B and C.
2. Fill half of each bottle with water. Put a spoonful of sugar into the bottle.

4. Stir the mixture
5. Observe the particles of the substance added to the water in each bottle. Look at
the color of each mixtures.
6. Record your observation using this table below.

Class in our previous activity, you have discovered how different substances behave
in water as well as its effect when dissolved in water.
Activity B
The teacher will flash examples of homogeneous mixture and let the students
formulate the meaning of homogeneous mixture based from their observation.

After comparing the answers based on observation and based from the true concept. The series of
activities done by the students arrived at the generalization.
As part of the deepening activity the students will answer the following questions which will
serve as the generalization.

c. Homogeneous and heterogeneous both are types of mixtures. What are mixtures?
A mixture is made up of two or more substances. No chemical reaction takes place when a
mixture is formed. The chemical properties of a mixture are the same as the properties of its
components. The components of a mixture can be separated through physical methods and
be mixed in any portion.

After you have acquired the concepts about mixtures. Each of you will give one example of a
mixture and tell whether what type of mixture it is.
