The teacher will let the learners to play Minute to Win It. The learners will be
C. Motivation
given 1 minute to tell at least 10 ingredients used in Halo-halo.
1. ice
2. sugar
3. banana
4. coconut
5. melon
6. gelatin
7. ice cream
8. milk
9. jackfruit
10. sweetened macapuno/nata de coco and etc.

The teacher will emphasize that the ingredients of halo-halo makes it a mixture.
D. Presentation of the Lesson
The ones who haven’t seen in the halo-halo such as sugar and melted ice are
said to be homogeneous which is the topic for today.
The teacher will explain the following:
E. Development of the Lesson
(Teacher may involve the learners by reading and giving some ideas and
examples during the discussion)
A mixture is a material made up of two or more different substances which are
physically combined. A mixture is the physical combination of two or more
substances in which the identities are retained and are mixed in the form of
solutions, suspensions and colloids.
Sometimes when solid materials are mixed with other solids or when liquid
materials mixed with other liquids, each of the combined materials cannot be
distinguished anymore from each other, the resulting mixture looked the same
throughout, and such mixture is called homogeneous mixture.
Many homogeneous mixtures are commonly referred to as solutions. Solutions
are homogeneous mixtures having two or more components uniformly
distributed. (Padpad 2015). They are classified as solid, liquid or gaseous. A
solution consists of a solute and a solvent. The solute is the substance that is
dissolved. The solvent is the substance that dissolves the solute. For example in
a solution of sugar and water, the sugar is the solute and the water is the
solvent.
Substances react differently when mixed with water. Some substances like
sugar,
coffee and salt spread evenly when mixed with water. These materials are
called soluble materials because they can easily dissolve in water.
Liquid materials can also be combined with another liquid material. Two liquids
that
mixed completely together are said to be miscible. Soy sauce and vinegar
solution is an example of a miscible liquid.
There are five types of solutions. All these types are homogeneous.
1. Solid in liquid- a solid substance is dissolved in a liquid substance like salt in
water.
2. Liquid in liquid- a liquid substance can also be dissolved in another liquid like
wine, alcohol and water.
3. Gas in liquid- in gas in liquid certain liquids contain gaseous substances,
soft drinks appear as liquid, but they actually contain carbon dioxide gas.

4. Gas in gas- water is the universal solvent. Oxygen is also present in water.
Air is a very good example of gas solution. It is a mixture of several gases-
oxygen
(20.95%), nitrogen (78.09%), carbon dioxide (0.03%) argon (0.93%), and
several
trace gases- water vapor, methane and ammonia.

5. Solid in solid- Alloys are examples of solid in solid solution. Examples are
brass, composed of copper and zinc and steel, composed of carbon and iron
metals.

F. Enrichment Activity
The learners will guess the words from the given descriptions and pictures to
determine the word being described or defined.
1. Mixtures
2. Soluble
3. Miscible
4. Homogeneous

What homogeneous mixtures are?

H. Generalization
Why homogeneous mixtures are useful at home?

Give ten (10) homogeneous mixtures you usually combine or mix at home.1.

Direction: Solutions may be solids, liquids or gases. Below is a list of solutions.
IV. ADDITIONAL ACTIVTY
Identify the state of each solution.

Material State (solid, liquid, gas)

1. soda drink
2. air
3. gold
4. water
5. orange juice

IV. REFLECTION Why homogeneous mixtures are essential in our daily lives?
(Reflection on the Type of Formative
Assessment Used for This Particular
Lesson)
V. VALUES INTEGRATION Remember:
Homogeneous mixtures are combined substances that are evenly spread
throughout the mixture. Like us humans, we need to be combined and together
with other people despite our differences for common goods. That is what we call
UNITY IN DIVERSITY.
