GREETINGS AROUND THE WORLD

Every day you do it; in your daily routine, from the moment you see an acquaintance,
or if you are more outgoing, when you see a stranger on the street; It is inevitable not
to stop to greet the people you meet or live with. Each country has different ways of
specifying this presentation act, so we show you some of the various greetings that
exist in the world.

MEXICO
In the vast majority of the American continent, the most used greeting is the
handshake, both at a social and work level. But if it is a member of your family or a very
close friend, you can give a kiss on the cheek when of greeting.
As an exercise in mirroring, it is said that greetings from a Mexican are warm from the
beginning; full of kindness and even according to the experience of the Food and
Travel Mexico team; We know that in countries like Colombia, some of its inhabitants
believe that Mexicans are very passionate; making these kinds of affirmations, even
from the first contact.
SPAIN
In this country it is common for two kisses to be given on the cheek, it is said that
Spaniards start with the right cheek and then with the left. This greeting is normally
given between two women; or a man and a woman. But between two men, they shake
hands. This greeting is given in other European countries such as Italy.

New Zealand
In New Zealand there is a type of greeting called a hongi or Maori greeting; of an
indigenous tribe. It consists of joining nose to nose and the forehead of the people who
greet each other.
It is believed that when making this greeting the "ha" or vital breath of those who greet
each other is exchanged; in order to go from being -manuhiri- foreigner to -whenua-
someone from the same land.

INDIA
The traditional Hindu greeting, by way of respect, is performed by clasping the hands at
chest level and saying "namaste." This with the intention of wishing well-being to
people and recognizing the divinity within them; a greeting that can be spoken at any
time of the day.
Japan
The most common way to greet in this Asian country is with a slight bow of the head as
a sign of respect for the other person. Also, due to cultural allusions, it is believed that
bows are part of Japanese routines or greetings, but they should not be done all the
time.
These are only done as a sign of respect, when you greet important people or the
elderly, in work environments, towards people with high positions or heads of family. It
should be noted that bows are not made between friends or when there is trust. They
are also used when you are very embarrassed or want to apologize for an action.
DIVERSOS SALUDOS EN EL MUNDO
Todos los días lo haces; en tu rutina diaria, desde el momento en que ves a un
conocido, o si eres más extrovertido, cuando ves a un desconocido en la calle; es
inevitable no detenerte a saludar a las personas con las que te encuentras o convives.
Cada país, tiene formas distintas de concretar este acto de presentación, por lo que te
mostramos algunos de los diversos saludos que hay en el mundo.
MÉXICO
En la gran mayoría del continente americano, el saludo más utilizado es el apretón de
manos, tanto a nivel social y laboral. Pero si se trata de un integrante de tu familia o un
amigo muy cercano, se puede utilizar el beso como forma de saludo.
Como ejercicio de espejo, se dice que los saludos por parte de un mexicano son
cálidos desde el inicio; llenos de amabilidad e incluso de acuerdo con la experiencia
del equipo Food and Travel México; sabemos que en países como en Colombia,
algunos de sus habitantes creen que los mexicanos son muy apasionados; haciendo
este tipo de afirmaciones, incluso desde el primer contacto.
ESPAÑA
En este país es común que se den dos besos en la mejilla, se dice que los españoles,
inician con la mejilla derecha y luego con la izquierda. Este saludo se da normalmente
entre dos mujeres; o un hombre y una mujer. Pero entre dos hombres, se dan la mano.
Este saludo se da en otros países europeos como Italia.
Nueva Zelanda
En Nueva Zelanda existe un tipo de saludo llamado hongi o saludo maorí; de una tribu
indígena. Consiste en unir nariz con nariz y la frente de las personas que se saludan.
Se cree que al realizar este saludo se intercambia el “ha” o aliento vital de los que se
saludan; con la finalidad de pasar de ser -manuhiri– extranjero a -whenua- alguien de
la misma tierra.
INDIA
El saludo tradicional hindú, a manera de respeto, se realiza juntando las manos a la
altura del pecho y pronunciar «namaste». Esto con la intención de desear bienestar a
las personas y reconocer la divinidad en el interior de las mismas; un saludo que
puede pronunciarse a cualquier hora del día.
Japón
La forma más habitual de saludar en este país asiático es realizando una leve
inclinación de cabeza como muestra de respeto por la otra persona. Asimismo, por
alusiones culturales, se cree que las reverencias forman parte de las rutinas o saludos
japoneses, pero no todo el tiempo se deben de realizar.
Estas sólo se hacen en señal de respeto, cuando saludas a personas importantes o de
la tercera edad, en ambientes laborales, hacia personas con altos cargos o jefes de
familia. Cabe destacar, que las reverencias no se hacen entre amigos o cuando hay
confianza. También se utilizan cuando se está muy avergonzado o se quiere pedir
disculpas por alguna acción.
