Family and Relatives

Hello, everyone! And welcome to the next video lesson. This video is about family and
relatives. You know that this is an important part of our life, and we are often asked to tell
about our family. We should know how to say it in English. First of all, let’s remember how
to name some family members and relatives. Please repeat after me and translate the
words if necessary: son, daughter, cousin, nephew, niece, aunt, uncle, husband, wife,
grandparents, great-grandmother, grandson.

Excellent work! In the second part of the lesson you will have to answer my questions
about three families. You’ll see the pictures of the families on the screen. You can pause
the video to answer. Please begin you answers with the phrases I suggest at the bottom of
the slides.

After your answer you will hear my opinion on the same question. I suppose it will be
interesting to compare our thoughts. Look at the first picture:

Who is standing behind the girl in the picture? (I think … it is her mother.)

Who is the man to the girl? (I suppose … he is her grandfather.)

Between whom is the girl sitting? (In my opinion, … she is sitting between her
grandparents.)

The second picture:

Who is the woman petting the dog to the man sitting on the floor? (To my mind … she is
his wife.)

Who is the girl to the boy sitting next to her? (Obviously, … she is his sister.)

Who is the man sitting in the armchair to the woman next to him? (As for me, … he is her
husband.)

Who is the boy to the man sitting on the floor? (I think … he is the man’s son.)
The third picture:

Who is the man to the girl sitting on his shoulders? (I think it is a girl.) (In my opinion, …
he is her father.)

Who is the man with a ball to the smallest child in the photo? (It seems to me … he is her
uncle.)

Who is the woman in a skirt to the boy in the foreground? (To my mind … she is his
aunt.)

Who is the boy to the girl in the photograph? (As for me, … he is her cousin.)

It is the end of the video. I hope that it was useful for you and now you won’t have a
problem talking about family and relatives. See you next time.
