Guidance Staff

The programs and services are carried out with the assistance of qualified guidance counselors and staff.
And now, allow me to introduce the personnel of the guidance and testing center who will be of help
when students and other stakeholders experience psychological distress or faced with personal and
social concerns. Sense of uncertainty, or if they just want to share their happiness and success in life or
they just need someone who will stand by their side and listen.

The Officer in Charge of the Guidance and Testing Center is Mrs. Jane M. Palatan, a Registered Guidance
Counselor and Licensed Professional Teacher. She graduated BS ---------- and took up Master in
Counseling at ___________

IN THE NEW NORMAL:

Given the limitations of online setting, the programs and services that will be prioritized in response to
the current pandemic caused by the COVID-19 are:

Information Service – where in webinars will conducted for Elementary to College students and
Homeroom Guidance Activities to be administered to the Grade 4 to 10 students with the help of the
advisers.

Counseling Service – where the lockdowns have triggered the use of web-based interactive tools that
aid in the delivery of counseling services, and will focus on tele counseling, online routine counseling
sessions and referral.

Testing Service – different kinds of psychological tests will be given to all students via Google Form and
results will be sent individually by email.

Career Guidance Program – Career tests will also be given to all students via Google Form to determine
their career interests and career talks will be conducted.

Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Program – we have an organization of students, known as the
Columban College Peer Facilitators.

This is an organization that aims to assist the Guidance and Testing Center in carrying out its mission to
Columban College. Peer facilitators assist in reaching out to their fellow Columbanites with their
personal, psychological, social and academic concerns.
The organization provides different programs for its members such as:

 Personal development
 Leadership training
 Online group activities
 Webinars on Cyberbullying, Psychosocial Well-Being, Anxiety and Depression

The organization is open to all Junior High School, Senior High School and College students.

COUNSELING

In exchange with the usual face-to-face counseling session, this year the Guidance and Testing Center
will cater to the student’s counseling needs through e-counseling, and this will make use of online or
phone-based application of counseling services. Through this the students will get connected with their
respective counselors. To avail of the service the client may schedule an appointment by just clicking the
link shown on the screen. Within the link, options are provided by the user to choose from:

1. It is for self-referred
2. It is for referral of at-risk students

Added to this we have scheduled routine interview not only for new students and transferees, but
also to other grade/year levels. Students, expect a call or a message coming from your guidance
counselor this school year.

Confidentiality

Before the session starts the Counselor will affirm the privacy of the sessions on confidentiality, thus the
counselor will not record the session or break confidentiality unless:

 Someone is hurting the counselee


 The counselee wants to hurt itself or someone else
 The counselee voluntarily agrees that the information can be shared with another

When do we refer?

Referral to a counselor occurs when we observe the following warning signs.
