KNOWLEDGE ACCORDING TO IDEALISM

 Definition of Idealism 
Idealism is a philosophical approach that has as its central tenet that ideas are the only true
reality, the only thing worth knowing. In a search for truth, beauty, and justice that is enduring
and everlasting, the focus is on conscious reasoning in the mind. 
The main tenant of idealism is that ideas and knowledge are the truest reality.  Many things in
the world change, but ideas and knowledge are enduring.  Idealism was often referred to as
“idea-ism”. Idealists believe that ideas can change lives.  The most important part of a person is
the mind. It is to be nourished and developed.

Idealism is any philosophy which argues that the only things knowable are consciousness or the
contents of consciousness – not anything in the outside world, if such a place actually exists.
Indeed, idealism often takes the form of arguing that the only real things are mental entities, not
physical things

Progressive Education
Progressive education is a pedagogical movement that began in the late nineteenth century
and has persisted in various forms to the present. More recently, it has been viewed as an
alternative to the test-oriented instruction legislated by the No Child Left Behind educational
funding act.[1]

The term “progressive” was engaged to distinguish this education from the
traditional curriculum of the 19th century, which was rooted in classical preparation for
the university and strongly differentiated by socioeconomic level. By contrast, progressive
education finds its roots in present experience. Most progressive education programs have
these qualities in common:

 Emphasis on learning by doing – hands-on projects, expeditionary learning, experiential


learning
 Integrated curriculum focused on thematic units
 Integration of entrepreneurship in to education
 Strong emphasis on problem solving and critical thinking
 Group work and development of social skills
 Understanding and action as the goals of learning as opposed to rote knowledge
 Collaborative and cooperative learning projects
 Education for social responsibility and democracy
 Highly personalized education accounting for each individual’s personal goals
 Integration of community service and service learning projects into the daily curriculum
 Selection of subject content by looking forward to ask what skills will be needed in future
society
 De-emphasis on textbooks in favor of varied learning resources
 Emphasis on lifelong learning and social skills
 Assessment by evaluation of child’s projects and productions
