Lesson Plan in English 9

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a) Formulate predictions on material viewed
b) Identify meanings of words based on contextual clues
c) Be familiar with technical vocabulary for drama and theater
d) Give the importance of the message and theme conveyed by a play
e) Analyze literature as means of understanding unchanging values in changing world
f) Explain the literary devices used
g) Relate text content to particular social issues, concerns, or dispositions in real life
h) Compose an intro for a play review.

II. Subject Matter


a. Topic: Ensuring Family Security
b. References: English 9: A Journey Through Anglo-American Literature pp. 448-500
c. Target Level: Grade 9
d. Materials Needed: Chalk, chalkboard, visual aids, laptop and projector.

III. Procedure
Day 1
a. Motivation
The teacher will ask the students about how much they love their parents.
b. Presentation
After getting enough responses, the teacher will tell the class that they will watch a
video about a father and a daughter. The teacher will pause the video three times to give the
students time to reflect on what will happen next. The students will fill out the table in their
book page 499 with their predictions and reasons as to what will happen next every time the
teacher pauses the video.
c. Application
The students will be divided into five groups. Each group would be required to present
a role play about the ending that they would want to give to the video that they have watched.
Each group would have to assign two members to serve as the “analysts” who will be in charge
of answering task 2 (Page 450) while the rest of the group performs.
d. Assignment
Research on the background of the story “Death of a Salesman” together with its
author and historical background.

Day 2
a. Review and Checking of Assignments
The teacher will ask the students about what have discussed last meeting. After
reviewing, the teacher will ask some volunteers to share their researches about the story,
“Death of a Salesman”.
b. Unlocking of Difficulties
With the use of the visual aids prepared by the teacher, the students will unlock the
meanings of some difficult words from the story by matching the word with its correct
definition. Volunteers from the class will be asked to do the activity on the board.
c. Presentation
After unlocking the meaning of some difficult words found in the selection, the teacher
will show a video about the story, “Death of a Salesman”. After showing the video, the teacher
will discuss the story focusing first on the characters through a PowerPoint Presentation.
d. Evaluation
The students will be tasked to answer Task 6, pages 490-491 in a 1/2 crosswise sheet
of paper.
e. Assignment
The teacher will ask the students to answer Task 4 Letter C. (page 453) as their
homework. Their answers will be written on their notebooks.
Day 3
a. Review and Checking of Assignments
The teacher will ask the students to check and pass their assignments. The answers
from the assignments will be explained by the teacher. After the checking of the assignments,
the teacher will ask the students about what they have discussed last meeting.
b. Presentation
The teacher will discuss the importance of a message and a theme conveyed by a play.
c. Activity
After the short discussion, the teacher will ask the students to go to their groups and
answer task 7, page 491. They will be given 10 minutes to answer and then each group will
present and explain their answer. The teacher will facilitate the class discussion and process
the groups’ answers.
d. Assignment
Read and understand dialogues 1-3 page 493.

Day 4
a. Review
The teacher will ask the students about what they have discussed for the past few days
including the story “Death of a Salesman.” The teacher will ask the students once again about
what the story is all about.
b. Presentation
The teacher will ask the students to go to their groups. The teacher will assign 1
dialogue from Task 9 page 493 to each group and they will be given 5 minutes to practice their
dialogues. After 5 minutes, they will present it in class and the teacher will facilitate their
performance.
After the performances, the teacher will draw out from the class an important learning
on the use of non-verbal strategies in communicating based on the given guide questions.
c. Assignement
Answer task 10 page 494 on a 1/2 sheet of paper.
