Code/Title : Prof Ed 7 – Teacher and the School Curriculum


No. of Units : 3 units
No. of Hours : 54 Contact Hours
Prerequisite : None
Description : This course includes the fundamental concepts and principles in curriculum and curriculum development as a foundation to
engage prospective teachers as curricularists. The more active role of the teacher in planning, implementing and evaluating
school-curriculum as well as in managing school curriculum change vis-à-vis various context of teaching-learning and
curricular reforms shall be given emphasis.

Examination 20% (40% if there is no project)
FINAL GRADE = 20% of Prelim Term + 30% of Mid Term + 50% of Final Term

Learning Outcome/s:

1. Identify the different types of curricula that exist in the teacher’s classroom.
2. Describe the school curriculum in terms of its definition, its nature and scope.
3. Provide necessary concepts and activities in preparation to be a curriculum designer.
4. Explain the process of curriculum implementation.
5. Acquire clear understanding of what curriculum evaluation is in the context of its definition and the role of the teacher as an evaluator.
6. Gain comprehensive understanding of different curriculum development reforms and enhancement
7. Explain the significant curricular reforms in teacher education in the Philippines.
8. Make aware of the curricular landscape in the 21st century and the skills that the curriculum has to develop.
