 INTRODUCTION
 The project relates to the Construction of 3 Storey Clubhouse located at
Sierra Valley Gardens, Suburban Dr., Cainta Rizal. The civil work method
statement shall address the requirements of project site operations
applicable for the fabrication and placing of structural steel on the
construction work project.

 PURPOSE
 The work includes the fabrication, erection, and shop painting of structural
steel. Provide in accordance with AISC “Manual of Steel Construction”
except as specified herein. In the AISC “Manual of Steel Construction”
referred to herein, the “Specification for the Design, Fabrication, and
Erection of Structural Steel for Buildings”, the “Code of Standard Practice
for Steel Buildings and Bridges”, and “Structural Joints Using ASTM A 325
or A 490 Bolts” shall be considered a part thereto. Field painting of
structural steel is as specified elsewhere

 REQUIRED SUBMITTALS
 We will submit the following prior to start construction of Steel Structure for
Clubhouse;
 Shop Drawings. We will submit shop drawings for approval by the
Structural Consultant prior to fabrication. Prepare in accordance with
the AISC “Detailing for Steel Construction” and AISC “Engineering for
Steel Construction”. Include complete information for the fabrication
and erection of the structure’s components, including the location, type,
and size of bolts, welds, member sizes and lengths, connection details,
blocks, copes, and cuts. Use AWS standard welding symbols.

 Erection Plan. We will submit for record purposes. Indicate the

sequence of erection, temporary shoring and bracing, and a detailed
sequence of welding, including each welding procedure required.

 Welder, Welding Operation, and Tacker Qualification. Prior to welding,

we will submit certification for each stating the type of welding and
positions qualified for, the code and procedure qualified under, date
qualified, and the firm and individual certifying the qualification tests.

 TOOLS, MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

We would use the following materials on the fabrication of Structural Steel for Clubhouse;
 Structural Steel
 ASTM A36 Grade 36 (fy = 248 MPa, 36 ksi)
 Bolts, Nuts, and Washers
 Bolts - ASTM A 325, Type 1 or Type 2
 Nuts - ASTM A 563, Grade A, Heavy Hex style,
except nuts under 1-1/2 inch may be provided in hex style
 Washers - ANSI B18.22.1, Type B.
 Shop Painting
 Pretreatment - Mil. Spec. DOD-P-15328 or Fed. Spec. TT-
C-490, Type I, II, or IV.
 Primer - Fed. Spec. TT-P-645
 Rust Preventive - SSPC SP 3 or SP 6
 Welding Electrodes and Rods - AWS D1.1.
 Non-Shrink Grout - COE CRD-C-621, with no ASTM C 827
shrinkage.
 Welded Shear Stud Connectors ASTM A 108, Grade 1015, 1018, or 1020,
cold drawn bars, semi or fully killed. Finished studs shall not contain injurious laps, fins,
seams, cracks, twists, bends, and other injurious defects, and shall provide the following
ASTM A 370 properties:
 Tensile Strength (minimum) . . . 60,000 psi
 Yield Strength (minimum) . . . 50,000 psi
 Elongation (minimum) . . . 20 % in 2 in.
 Area Reduction (minimum) . . . 50 percent

 WORK PROCEDURE
FABRICATION

 Markings
Prior to erection, members shall be provided with a painted erection mark. In addition,
connecting parts assembled in the shop for reaming holes in field connections shall be
match marked with scratch and notch marks. Do not locate erection markings on areas
to be welded. Do not locate match markings in areas that will decrease member strength
or cause stress concentrations.

 Shop Painting
Shop paint structural steel, except as modified herein. Do not paint steel surfaces
embedded in concrete, galvanized surfaces, bearing surfaces, or surfaces within 1/2 inch
of the toe of the welds prior to welding (except surfaces on which metal decking or shear
studs are to be welded). Prior to assembly, paint surfaces which will be concealed or
inaccessible after assembly.

1. Cleaning. SSPC SP 6, except as modified herein. SSPC SP 3 or SP 6 for steel

surfaces exposed in spaces above ceilings, attic spaces, crawl spaces,
furred spaces, and chases. In addition, maintain steel surfaces free from rust,
dirt, oil, grease, and other contaminants through final assembly.
2. Pretreatment: Immediately after cleaning, provide the metal surfaces with one coat of
Mil.
Spec. DOD-P-15328 pretreatment to a dry film thickness of 0.3 to 0.5 mil.
Fed Spec. TT-C490 pretreatment may be applied to SSPC SP6 cleaned
surfaces, in accordance with Fed. Spec. TT-C-490.
3. Priming: Immediately after the pretreatment coating has dried, apply primer to a
minimum dry film thickness of 2.0 mil. Repair damaged primed surfaces with
an additional coat of primer.

ERECTION
Calibration wrenches shall be calibrated every two working days on a minimum of three
(3) typical bolts of each diameter. Provide for drainage in structural steel.

 Base Plates and Bearing Plates

After final positioning of steel members, provide full bearing under plates using non-shrink
grout. Place non-shrink grout in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

CONNECTIONS
Connections not detailed shall be designed in accordance with AISC “Manual of Steel
Construction”. Build connections into existing work. Do not tighten anchor bolts set in concrete
with impact torque wrenches. Punch, sub-punch and ream, or drill bolt holes.

 Required Manpower
1. Fitter/Erector/Layout man
2. Tacker (must be NCII)
3. Qualified Welder (must be NCIII)
4. Qualified Welding Operators
5. Certified welding inspectors for fabrication / erection inspection and testing and verification
inspections.

DELIVERY & STORAGE:

 Handle, store, and protect materials in accordance with the manufacturer’s
recommendations. Replace damaged items with new items, or repair as approved by the
Structural Engineer.

JOB CONDITIONS
 Do not apply paint on steel in foggy or rainy weather; when the ambient temperature is
below 45°F or over 95°F; or when paint may be exposed to temperatures below 40°F
within 48 hours after application, unless approved otherwise.
 Do not weld near flammable material. Move flammables at least 35 feet away or protect
them with flame-proof covers.
 A 20 lb., ABC dry chemical extinguisher (or equivalent) must be immediately available in
the work area and must be maintained in a state of readiness for instant use.
 When welding is being performed on a higher level where there is an exposure to workers
below, the area directly below the welding shall be cleared and marked as a "Do Not Enter
Zone", to protect any workers passing underneath from being hit by sparks or slag.
 A fire watch must be maintained at least 30 minutes after the hot work is completed.
 Welding/cutting operations shall be performed by trained, certified workers.
