Description
Climate control includes:

CCM
The CCM controls the engagement of the compressor depending on input signals from different
sensors and/or control units in the vehicle.

Filling valve
The filling valve is located on the low pressure pipe in front of the climate unit.

Receiver drier
The drier is located on the left-hand side of the condenser. The drier absorbs any moisture in the
system and also filters and stores the refrigerant before it is fed to the expansion valve. The
refrigerant enters the drier in liquid state.

Compressor
The compressor sucks the refrigerant (in gaseous state) from the evaporator, compresses it and
pumps it to the condenser. The compressor is lubricated by the oil leaving the drier. The compressor
is engaged and controlled by the CCM, based on information from different sensors.

Condenser
The condenser cools the refrigerant. The heat from the refrigerant is transferred to the air passing
through the condenser cooling fins. As the refrigerant cools, it changes from gaseous to liquid state.
The cooling fan is monitored and controlled by the ECM.

Pressure sensor
The pressure sensor is located on the high pressure pipe before the expansion valve.

Expansion valve
The thermal expansion valve is located on the climate unit. The valve regulates the flow of refrigerant
to the evaporator. The pressure and temperature decrease when the liquefied refrigerant passes the
expansion valve.

Evaporator
The evaporator is located inside the climate unit. The heat from the cab air is transferred to the
refrigerant as it passes the evaporator. When the refrigerant reaches its boiling point, it changes from
liquid to gaseous state.

Description
The CCM controls the components in the system, on the basis of the values selected in the CCP and
the information given by the evaporator temperature sensor. It is located behind the evaporator
cooling fins and sends information to the CCM about the current temperature.
In vehicles with a parking heater, there is also a cab temperature sensor, which consists of three
parts:
● The cab main temperature sensor.

● The compensation temperature sensor.

● The solar effect sensor.

The sensors send information to the CCM, which calculates the correct air mixture to achieve the
selected cab temperature.
The fan forces the incoming air through the filter and then the evaporator cooling fins. This results in
heat in the air being transferred to the refrigerant in the evaporator: the refrigerant boils and the air
cools down. The cooled air then passes on to the cab.
In the heat exchanger, hot coolant from the engine heats up the incoming air.
The fan regulator controls the cab ventilation air. In trucks produced until week 49 year 2018, the fan
regulator is supplied with a constant voltage and regulates the fan motor with a variable voltage.

Constant supply 24 V

Variable supply 0 – 10 V

In trucks produced from week 49 year 2018, the fan regulator is supplied with a constant voltage and
regulates the fan motor with a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) signal.

Tech data

Constant supply 24 V

The air mixture valve and coolant valve adjust the temperature by mixing warm and cold air and by
regulating the coolant flow through the heat exchanger.
