Light travels in a straight line

The straight lines that show the path of light and its direction of travel are called rays

A group of rays is called a beam

EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT MATERIALS ON LIGHT

Transparent materials
Allows light to pass through and we are able to clearly see through them

Example:

 Clear glass
 Clear polythene bags

Uses

Making vehicles windscreen and window panes

Translucent materials

Allows some light to pass through them and one cannot see through them clearly

Examples:

 Frosted glass
 Oiled paper
 Tinted glass
 Sheet of white paper

OPAQUE OBJECTS

Do not allow any light to pass through them and one cannot see through

They absorb light forming shadows

Used for constructing walls

Reflection is the bouncing of light from a shiny surface

Shinny smooth surface produces a regular reflection

Rough shinny surface produces irregular reflection

Refraction is bending of light from one medium to another

FORMATION OF A RAINBOW
Formed by the refraction of sunlight as it passes through droplets of water

It is formedonly when it is raining and the sun is shining

It is made up of seven which are

o Red
o Orange
o Yellow
o Green
o Blue
