The word turmeric comes from the Arabic kourkoum (saffron), since it was believed to be a
saffron variety.

Now let's move on to the definition of this plant

MEDICINAL PLANTS

"Turmeric"
2. Definition: Turmeric is a herbaceous plant, with perennial leaves that has subterranean
rhizomes that are used after the harvest as seasoning, tincture and medicinal preparations.
It can reach up to one meter in height when it has reached its full development. It has
flowers of different colors grouped in basal spikes. The rhizomes may have a thickness of
five to eight centimeters; With a yellowish color. In Agroshopping they can be obtained
fresh for their integral use.

We continue with aspects of interest

3. Climate and Harvesting: The cultivation in our environment is still very limited, but it
adapts very well because it is a kind of subtropical and tropical climate. Keep in mind that
it can not withstand frost.

This is why it is planted at the end of the cold season on loose, fertile soils and fertilizers, to
allow the good development of the rhizomes that are the ones that are marketed. It is not
suitable for compacted, flooded or low drainage soils where water can be collected

The harvest is done at 10 months or earlier, according to the development of the rhizomes,
which coincides with the fall of the leaves at the beginning of the cold periods. Harvesting
must be done with great care to minimize the commercial product that rhizomes are.
