Part I.
Discuss your answer based on what you have understood, briefly and concisely.
1. Differentiate the following: Social welfare, Social Services, and Social Work. Provide
illustrative examples of each.
- Because they both include assisting people who are poor, Social Work
and Social Welfare are quite similar. Work that you undertake for those who are
in need of assistance is referred to as social work. The term "social welfare"
refers to the services provided to assist people in improving their quality of life. In
certain nations, a distinction is made between "social services," which refers to
programs that benefit the general public, such as health care and education, and
"welfare services," which refers to assistance given to vulnerable populations
such as the destitute, disabled, or delinquents. Healthcare, Empowerment and
Housing are some of the examples of the three.
2. Differentiate a “need” from a “problem”. Think of the community where you live. What
human needs exist; what human problems are there? How do people meet their needs?
How do they and/or the society respond to their problems?
- A need must be met, but a problem does not always need to be solved.
“We have a problem with our present equipment,” for example. Humans have
certain basic requirements or needs. To survive, we require food, drink, air, and
shelter. Humans cannot survive if any of these essential needs are not supplied,
Crime, violence, economic troubles, discrimination, political unrest, terrorism, and
environmental issues are just a few of the additional concerns that society has to
deal with. All of these issues are complicated, and solutions are elusive. Despite
this, they have something in common. They are all, for the most part, caused by
humans. To address their requirements, humans build communities. When
humans try to meet their needs by building structures, clearing land, or planting
crops, they develop human qualities. Students learn about human qualities in the
local community as well as other communities in this lesson.

Part II.
Think of a social welfare agency that you know or familiar with. What social services
does it provide? Who are the beneficiaries of these social services?
- The DSWD and local governments must offer victims with temporary
accommodation, counselling, psychosocial treatment, and/or a
recovery, rehabilitation, and livelihood aid program. The impoverished,
disadvantaged, and marginalized elements of society will receive
special attention.
