from sucker punch - The mere thought of putting on his shoes sends an immigrant hate-crime
victim’s heart racing.

Santipon Faksang, 31, who suffered a broken nose in an April 19 assault as he left a Manhattan
subway station, remains unnerved about walking the New York streets as his assailant remains
on the loose in a year where anti-Asian hate crimes soared by nearly 400% citywide.
“My life before this was good,” said Faksang, who arrived in New York from Thailand four years
ago.
“But this attack made me scared to go alone,” Faksang told the Daily News. “My heart shakes. It
starts when I pick up my shoes. My heart is shaking, I’m scared it’s going to happen again.” July
