2020… A Year Like No Other…

By Andy Yang 9G
Hello readers and welcome to… Oops sorry… Please wait a minute… Windows Starting…

Now that’s better. WHello everyone and welcome to the my Windows diary Diary Program of about
2020. Twenty twenty, a year that no computer has ever experienced.

It started off way before 2020. I was given to this kid, called Andy, as a school laptop back in 2019. I
have to admit, he wasn’t a very good owner at first, I was dropped and bangedwas damaged so
many times. A However, as time passed, I felt that I was one of the lucky fortunate ones. Some of my
fellow mates had stickers all over their faces, blinding them. Others contracted viruses that made
them sick so they had to get treated at the hospital, which was called “IT”. Some of them never
came back.

But enough of Andy – I could go on and on and on about that, but we really need to let’s get to the
point. This diary starts inIt’s March March of 20202019, after Andy’s skiing trip in Japan and the most
of Term 1, which is always smooth and easy. Little did I know I was going to have my work cut out for
me this year.

The world has changed dramatically. In fact, it has changed more than you can ever imagine.

It’s is late mid-march now, and the world hasI’ve a lot on its my plate. I’m not the only one. The
world has changed, more than you could ever imagine.

Last DecemberAround two months ago, a virus was reported to be in the city of Wuhan, China. and
Bbarely, severaltwo months later, the whole world is on its edge. Here down under in Australia, we’
are currently in a lockdown. Let me quickly find the definition of that again. (insert definition that
applies to the compute) Things that have been taken for granted by Andy and his family have been
restricted, or worse, disallowed. . Andy and his family, however, isn’t too fussed.

Just like The Walking Dead (a TV show Andy likes), tToilet paper, tinned food and grains are being
fought over in supermarkets, vanishing quicker than supermarkets can stock them..

School too, has also changed, Andy has taken me into his workroom for online learning, using a
program called Microsoft Teams, which sounds really cool.

We are in another lockdown and our situation this time is dire. We now have over 100 cases of
COVID-19 ((which stands for COoronaVIvirus Ddisease of 2019, as it first appeared in 2019) every
day. However, I still feel lucky considering many other countries who have thousands of cases every
day.

Online lessons have started up again for Term 3 amid this ever-increasing crisis. There is no point
trying toin doomsurfing (Computer Def: the act of consuming a large quantity of negative online
news at once) crolling these days as there is news of death and sickness wherever you look. On the
other hand, Andy is relaxed about the lockdown. He has recently downloaded a program called
Bluestacks where he can play games while in class. Cheeky! Sometimes I freeze it on him, just to get
him back on track.

Is this lockdown ever going to end??? I’m near deathdying. The end is near! I can feel it in my
circuits. I’ve got a terrible temperature and I feel so sluggish all of the sudden. I’ve been sick for the
last couple of weeks and I currently have a very high temperature. This is probably because Andy’s
has been learning online while playing games ANDand also streaming Star Wars: The Clone Wars, all
at the same time! I’ve already fainted once or twice from this immense pressure. When will this
fever break? PLEASE Andy!!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!! I can’t take much more of this. I don’t want to go
to “IT”!

Phew…, I’m feeling much better now, . all thanks to After the madness of the first few months of
lockdown, Andy, who has has developed a system to lower my temperature while multitasking
tirelessly himself. Lately, Andy has taken to dripping droplets of cold water onto my forehead to
keep me cool while not damaging my circuits. The droplets are then evaporated and replenished my
Andy, who is being bored to death by online learning and rejuvenated by Bluestacks, which is like a
block of ice on a hot summers day.. I have tomust admit, it’s a great system! Thanks Andy!

Finally, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. At least, that’s what TV, one of my friends, has
said.Andy’s mum said. I’m not entirely sure what its means, – we haven’t been in a tunnel.… In fact,
wWe’ve barely left the house!. But I take that it’s a good thing. we are getting less cases of this
despicable virus every day and the lockdown is drawing to a close, meaning “I can see the light at the
end of the tunnel.” Not that I know what it means.

We are out of lockdown and back in actual school!!! SchYESool! I never thought I’d miss the place.
Andy has received his grades during the lockdown period and has gotten greatthe marks were
greatood. With all that “multitasking”, don’t ask me how. marks, don’t ask me how! Meanwhile, he
is studying hard to get into Melbourne High, a selective entry school. I really hope he gets in!!!
Inevitably, I must sadly call an end to this diary (or else I’ll have no more storage!). As this terrible
ordeal is concluding, I must sadly call an end to this diary (or else I’ll have no more storage!). I
sincerely hope all you readers have had a rollercoaster time reading my experiences during this
incredible year. That’s it everybody, I have to go! Andy’s shutting me down…Andy’ running too many
programs again. I feel like I’m going to faint.

Windows shutting down… THE END

Great work here, Andy. You’ve done a good job of giving the pc a personality and perspective, and
added some good humour and computer references and analogies. I would suggest, however, that
you need to do a bit more to show the experience of lockdown, and how it’s affecting you at the
time. You do this well in places, but not so well in others. I’ve made a few suggestions – add them or
don’t, that’s up to you!

Jamie.
