FEATURES TO ADOPT:
- It features other spaces providing
conveniences for the passengers
not just the whole transport hub
itself e.g. BPO offices, restaurants,
sopping places and other
recreational spaces. The designer
chose to adopt its goal in uplifting
the economy which can help the
city and the country.
- Not only the uplift, it is also help

FEATURES TO ADAPT:
The Park n’ Drive terminal and parking area. Its serves as a bus terminal. Its location is
convenient. It maximizes the accessibility of the Universities, historical features around Lawton
and a establishments. The way they proposed to have a terminal specifically on this site is a
smart move, not only its convenience to the commuters but also it has a lot of potential in
economic standing in Manila.

PARK n RIDE “Lawton”

LOCATION | Ermita, Manila, Metro Manila

The Park & Ride Station or simply called as Lawton is the final stop for passengers. From
Lawton, you can ride a jeepney or taxi if you are going to other places in Metro Manila. While Local Case Study
waiting for the jeepney, you can see a lot of distinct landmarks such as prime universities,
government offices and historical buildings around the area from Taft Avenue to Padre Burgos
Street.
It is also a parking for private cars for those who want to commute and leave their cars.
Connected in LRT line the central station. It has several food stalls and convenient stores for
the passengers while waiting for their ride. It is also near to the MMT (Metro-Manila Terminal)
that have ferry station.
Manila Multimodal Terminal
LOCATION | Lawton, Manila City

The Manila Multimodal Terminal in Lawton caters to a lot of passengers ranging from
employees to students. It is filled with busses and fx’s going to places as far as Sucat and
SouthMall. The site is located between the Carriedo Terminal station and Central Terminal
station. The site has a part of the railway of the two train stations going through it so the site
has a partially artificial shade for the vehicles parked inside. It also has a ferry station that
carries passengers to 13 other stations namely: Plaza Mexico, Escolta, Lawton, Quiapo, PUP,
Santa Ana, Lambingan, Valenzuela, Hulo, Guadalupe, Pineda, San Joaquin, Bambang,
Kalawaan, Pinagbuhatan – Acacia, Maybunga and Nagpayong.

The site has 3 small food stalls that are roughly 30 sq. m each located at the right of the
ingress, an office for the administration, comfort rooms for both men and women, chairs for
people waiting for the bus or fx that they want to ride on and a smoking area located at the
egress for the vehicles. The site does not have a parking lot for private vehicles because of the
limited area for parking of the busses and fx’s. The architect of the site utilized the railway as
part of the parking for additional shade.

FEATURES TO ADAPT:
The landscaping of Manila Multimodal blends the terminal to the nature. The trees were used
to block any unnecessary and unpleasant vistas of the site. The materials used in this
multimodal terminal is classic and the planning is mediocre that it made the design so humble
yet appealing to the users, and user-friendly because of the familiarity of what the people can
see – Nature.

natural lighting to be able to conserve energy during daytime. The terminal platforms also enjoy
natural light “…transmitted from above through generous floor openings in the Mezzanine.”

The heart of Transbay’s design is the rooftop park. Dense with nature and activities, it
will have over a dozen entry points, potentially including bridges to surrounding buildings.
Active and passive uses are woven into the landscape, including a 1,000-person amphitheater,
cafes, and a children’s playground, as well as quiet areas for reading, picnicking or simply
taking a break. The park will present a wide variety of Bay Area ecologies, from oak trees to a
wetland marsh.

FEATURE TO ADAPT:

The park is symbolic of Transbay Transit Center’s considerable

commitment to environmental quality and sustainability. The
building’s annual energy consumption is projected to be up to 25
percent lower than the 2008 Title 24 Energy Efficiency Standards,
and the project is on track to receive a Gold certification under the
LEED 2009 rating system.

TRANSBAY TRANSIT CENTER

ARCHITECTS | Pelli Clarke Pelli
LOCATION | San Francisco, California
TOTAL AREA | 1.5 million square feet | 140,000 square meters
DATE OF COMPLETION | 2017
CLIENT | Boston Properties, Inc.
Transbay Transit Center, opening in 2017, will be a state-of-the-art multimodal transit
station in downtown San Francisco, linking 11 transit systems and connecting the city to the
region, the state, and the nation. The innovative, highly sustainable design includes a
2.2hectare rooftop park that will anchor the growth of a new mixed-use neighborhood. In the
spirit of New York’s Grand Central Terminal and London’s Victoria Station, Transbay’s soaring
light-filled spaces will give San Francisco a grand entrance that befits its status as one of the
world’s great cities.
The new Transit Center will stretch for five blocks along Mission Street, one block south
of the city’s Financial District. A gently undulating wall, floating above the street on angled steel
columns, will be visible from afar, creating a graceful, luminous, and welcoming image. At
street level, shops and cafes will draw visitors and energize the surrounding neighborhood,
while high above, the trees and flowers of the rooftop park will invite people to visit for longer
periods, transforming the Transit Center from a commuter hub to an urban destination.
