A Collection of Entrance Hymns
PREFACE
LAUDATE DOMINUM(SING PRAISE TO THE LORD)
St.Augustine of Hippo (c. 430) is often quoted as having said “He who sings, prays twice”
(Qui bene cantat bis orat.). When we sing we pray twice because we are using the same words but
adding more effort by putting into music.Prayers touch God but praises move Him. As our praises go
up, blessings come down! Was it not the praise and worship of the children of Israel that brought
down the walls of Jericho? (Cf. Joshua 6). We must realize that once we sing the right songs at the
right time, from the heart, we get the right results.When we sing praise to the God, we manifest our
love for Him.
Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, in one of his sermons said: “If we close ourselves in formality,
our prayer becomes cold and sterile”. David’s prayer of praise brought him to leave all form of
composure and to dance in front of the Lord with all his strength. “This is the prayer of praise!” he
exclaimed. “While it is easy to ask God for something or even to give thanks to God, praising God is
usually left to the side”, he added. [Vatican City, January 28, 2014 (Zenit.org)].
This booklet, “Into Your Sanctuary- A Collection of Entrance Hymns” contains thirty two
(32) harmonized entrance songs (opening hymns) suitable for Masses. We sincerely thank God for
the grace given to Br. Pascal Obasi to do this compilation of Entrance hymns. We hope and pray that
with this compilation, there will be improved active participation by choirs and the general
congregationduring the sacred liturgy and that the right songs (Entrance hymns) will be taken during
Masses. To the Greater Glory of God, may everyone who uses this song booklet receive the gift of
joy from the Holy Spirit.To God be the Glory!
