ACTIVITY 1 – INTRODUCTION TO LITERATURE
For me, literature is something that is communicated through writing. It may be
an exchange of personal or intimate messages, or expressing oneself in a written form. Through this, the writers and the readers can develop and realize something from the contexts, allowing them to relate their own experiences to their perceived meaning and deduction. The study of literature is important because it improves our reading skills and vocabulary. The study of literature also enables not just the students, but all sorts of readers, to see the world - people, places, things, and events - through new eyes and from new perspectives. Also, we may be able to find inspiration and motivation that we can relate ourselves into. Our perspectives are widened when we study literature because we can gain knowledge and comprehend people with different views from us. Reading is a skill that we learn at a young age. We, students, and even other readers, can improve our vocabulary, communication skills, and ability to read, understand, and assess text by studying literature. Furthermore, it can provide us with significant cultural context, foster affection for other people, and promote understanding of diversity and respect for other cultures. Furthermore, literature can help students develop the critical-thinking skills are deemed useful in working in a professional environment. By reading and evaluating literature, we are feeding information to ourselves, not just information we wish to store, but also information we can use. We are also opening our minds to different perspectives, and thus allowing ourselves to gain something out of our knowledge. Literature also allows us to be open to ourselves, by relating to some piece or by constructing a piece of our own.
