Importance of numbers

In our daily lives, numbers play an important role. We use numbers and arithmetic in almost everything
we do. Since the day we were born, our lives have revolved around numbers, whether we like it or not.
Numerous numbers are directly or implicitly associated with our lives.

As a future pharmacist it is our duty to check prescriptions from physicians before dispensing the
medication to the patients to ensure that the patients don't receive the wrong drugs or take an incorrect
dose of medicine. It's important to determine the right amount because giving too much or too little to a
patient can lead to serious complications. When determining how much medicine to provide to a
patient, ratios and proportions are often used. The dosage of medicine is determined by the patient's
weight.

In additions the most common application of mathematics in medicine and pharmacology is probability
and statistics where, for example, the effectiveness of new drugs or medical procedures is validated by
statistical analysis before they are approved.

BUFFERS:

Our body is a complex structure comprised of numerous organs. Each of which carries a particular
function, duties or role. Like for instance the circulatory system which is an important system that make
up the body.

In acidity and basicity, it talks about the pH- power of Hydrogen. Acid is an ionic compound that releases
hydrogen ions in solution and Base is an ionic compound that releases hydroxyl or hydroxide ions in
solution. Acidic substances have low Ph and it ranges from 1-6 while basic substances have a high pH
which ranges form 8-14. In addition, if the pH range in 7, then it is said to be neutral.

Buffer, as defined, is a conjugate acid-base pair that can withstand pH changes when small amounts of
strong acids or bases are added. When a strong base is added, the buffer's acid neutralizes the
hydroxide ions (OH+). When a strong acid is added, the buffer's base neutralizes it.
ENZYMES:

The human body is a wondrous thing made up of numerous parts. Cells, tissues, organs, and organ
systems are examples of these components. To begin, one type of cell constitutes one type of tissue.
Then, an organ is made up of two or more types of tissues. Then, a group of organs working together
forms an organ system. Each of our body's organ systems serves a specific purpose or performs a
specific function.

An enzyme is a substance that acts as a catalyst in living organisms, regulating the rate at which
chemical reactions occur while remaining unaffected by the process. Example of enzymes that are found
in the human body includes- amylase, a group of enzymes that help digest fats; maltase, breaks sugar
maltose into glucose and trypsin, found in the small intestine, breaks protein down into amino acids.
Enzymes play a critical role in how the human body functions on a daily basis. They are essential for the
proper functioning of the digestive system, nervous system, muscles, and many other systems by
binding to and altering compounds.
