Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold

opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any
media and regardless of frontiers.
Article 19, Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Dear Delegates,
It gives me utmost pleasure to welcome you all to the
International Press Committee of the RCMUN Conference 2021.

We commonly say that the world is a global village and Media

and Press have made immense contribution in making the world
a ‘global village’. Today, the media has the power to make
or break individuals, groups, and even governments.

Instead of representing a particular country, the delegates

who are a part of the IP Committee act as unbiased
journalists and report the proceedings of the conference.

This guide will take you through all the rules and
regulations to be kept in mind and your responsibilities as
the journalist.

It is highly advisable to read this guide thoroughlyand

carefully. If any queries arise, you are welcome to contact
the undersigned.

Sincerely,
Kunal Vasnani
IP Head – RCMUN 2021

• BEFORE JOINING ANY
COMMITTEE PLEASE MAKE SURE
TO ADD IP BEFORE YOUR NAME.

• AVOID UNNECESSARY
UNMUTING OF YOURSELF WHICH
MAY CAUSE AN INTERRUPTION
TO THE ENTIRE COMMITTEE

• BE ALERT AT ALL TIMES AND

KNOW WHAT IS GOING IN THE
COMMITTEE
Being reporters, caricaturists and photographers, it’s
important for the journalists to be aware of the important
events that take place. To prepare detailed articles and
asking on-point questions, it’s vital to be well researched on
the topic being discussed in the committee.

To go about the researching process in a systematic and

effective way, the following points should be kept in mind-

• Firstly, get a basic understanding of the topic and jot

down the points you think are relevant to the agenda
that are going to be discussed in the committee.
• Secondly, read the background guide carefully but
remember that it is also one of the tools that will help
you with the research.
• Thirdly, understand the literal sense of the agenda.
• Fourthly, get to know about all the spheres of the
agenda, i.e. political, legal and social spheres.
• Fifthly, read some articles and pieces of information to
frame questions for interviewing delegates according
to their portfolios.
• And lastly, have a contemporary knowledge about
events so that your articles stay relevant to the agenda.
You will be given a “beat” which is the committee that you will be reporting about.
You sit in this committee, observe the deliberation and write a news article of at least
150 words. Basically, beats constitute fact based articles which contain the key facts
about the proceedings of the committee. In case of any doubts about a certain fact,
you may and should approach the delegate or the Executive Board described.

These generally feature the opinion of the journalist on the agenda being
discussed. An effective opinion piece contains convincing theories and
arguments along with facts and justifications. An opinion piece is judged
upon the facts and opinions presented.

Reporters may interview the delegates or even the Executive Board during
breaks or lobbying sessions. But NEVER carry out an interview inside the
committee room. If the reporter wishes, he/she may send a note to the
personhe/she wants to interview and then interview them outside. Reporters
shouldask questions from different delegates in a committee.

One of the most important tasks of a reporter is to present a report. They are
required to prepare a report by covering the important events that take
place in the committee and to describe them in the most concise and
detailed way.
The points to keep in mind while preparing a report are:
▪ Keep the article brief and to the point as much as possible.
▪ It is important for you to present the report in an unbiased manner. The report
should be a neutral take on the debates and discussions that take place on the
agenda.
▪ Present your reports with as much accuracy as possible. You can use quotations
to make your report as much creditable as possible.
▪ Your article should follow a structured format. Everything should be arranged in a
structural manner. The opening and closing should be identifiable and it ought to
contain at least two descriptive paragraphs and a conclusion.
▪ It is a must to give a title to your article. A headline and a by line is a must.
▪ DO NOT compromise with the language and grammar. Punctuation and
spellings should be correct. Make sure to proofread the article before submitting
to check for any spelling mistakes or grammar and punctuation.
No abbreviations other than the standard acronyms and approved
abbreviations to be used. If any doubts arise, feel free to ask any of
the editors.

No quotation should violate the dictates of diplomatic courtesy. All

pieces submitted by journalists should not be, in any way,
discourteous to any delegate. If any quotation that a reporter feels
to include in their article, it is encouraged to rephrase the statement
in a more courteous manner or omit it from the article.

Reporters should always use the correct and verified spelling of a

proper noun. It is mandatory to verify all the named sources.

All the reporters must spell check their reports before submitting them
to the editorial board.

Stick to one tense throughout the article and preferably, use the past
tense.

The time of submission will be announced as the INTERNATIONAL

PRESS Session begins. It is strictly advisable that the deadline for the
submission of articles, opinion pieces, interviews are adhered to.Delay
in submission may affect in further chain of events and may also
result to deduction of marks.

Please send reports and opinion pieces that are to be submitted, to

the Chief Editor of whose contact details are available below.
A caricaturist is a person who shows people in an

ongoing committee’s meeting on zoom but must be present
and on camera at all times.

• If the caricaturist chooses to visit or be at the ongoing

committee’s meeting he/she should inform the Assistant Editor
(or the IP Head/ Chief Editor if Assistant Editor is not available)

• The caricaturist must write their names on the caricature and

submit it ON TIME. Late submission might affect the overall
result while grading.

• Sourcing ideas from the internet is allowed but personal

creativity must be present.

• The caricature must be properly scanned & sent to the Assistant

Editor via email and WhatsApp along with your names as well
as the topic. Please find contact details below of the IP Head,

A photo can say a thousand words, and as a photographer
in the IP Committee you have various important roles to play
as well as few general rules to follow:

the committee topic given to you at most a week prior
to the MUN.
• As a photographer, you are required to take
screenshots of the main proceedings taking place in
your respective committee.

well as the AssistantEditor
• The Photographer may choose to stay in the IP Meeting
or the ongoing committee’s meeting on zoom but must
be present and on camera at all times.

points to remember as a journalist.
