Methodology

Wenner Four Pin Arrangement Method applies same spacing between vertical
electrodes. This method used four terminals, two for current infusion and two for
voltage estimation. The four electrodes organize in straight lines; the two external
terminals are a present electrode and two inward electrodes to quantify the voltage
drop of soil resistance. For this experiment, it will have three different spacing which
is 2m, 3m, and 4m, to get the best grounding point. Figure 1 shows the arrangement
.for the Wenner four pin Method

After measurement and get the data of soil resistance (Ω) apply formula below to get
the soil
:resistivity (Ω-m) value
𝝆=𝟐𝝅d𝑹 (Ω−𝒎)
:Where
𝝆 = soil resistivity (Ω-m)
d = distance between adjacent rod (m)
R = earth resistance (Ω)
SINGLE EARTH ROD ELECTRODE
The resistance of a single earth can be calculated if the soil resistivity is known. An earth
electrode driven vertically, the electrode resistance can be calculated using the equation

ρ
2lᴫ
¿ =R

:where

R = electrode resistance, Ω

ρ = Soil resistivity, Ω‐m

  L = Length of electrode buried in soil, m

d = Outer diameter of earth rod, m

MULTIPLE EARTH ROD ELECTRODES

In the event that the desired soil resistivity is not achievable using a single earth
electrode, multiple electrodes could be used. The combined resistance of rod
electrodes in parallel can be obtained from the following equation

1+ ‫ג‬a
)N ( R new = R
In which

ρ
sRᴫ
2 =a
Where

R = single rod resistance in isolation, Ω

S = rod spacing, m

  ρ = Soil resistivity, Ω‐m

λ = multiplying factor see Table

n = number of electrodes see Table
