Question 1.
1. Bluetooth:

1.1 Reason for its name:  This technology got its name from the King Harald Bluetooth (2nd
King of Denmark) in 10th century, appreciated for uniting disagreeing Danish Tribe into a
state. The same holds true for Bluetooth which get together communication protocols [1].

1.2 Parameters: Since it operates over short distance devices using UHF radio waves, they
fall under Class 2, which means they can communicate within a range of 10m (in most
cases). The technology operates at 2.4 GHz and has a maximum raw bit rate of 1-3 Mbps

1.3 Application:

 Mobiles and PDAs.
 Wireless PANs and even LANs.
 Laptop and notebooks.
 Transfer Audio, Video, and Document.

1.4 Limitation:

 Distance Limitation.
 Slow transfer rate.
 Poor Security.

2. Wi-F:

2.1 Reason for its name:  A common belief among individuals is that term Wi-Fi is short for
Wireless Fidelity and is a misconception it's a trademark phrase defined under IEEE 802.11x.

2.2 Parameters: Wi-Fi, a way to establish a wireless connection between sender and
receiver devices has a frequency range between 2.4GHz to 5GHz within the wireless
spectrum.

Wi-Fi signals operating at 2.4GHz can travel up to 150 feet in-door and 300 feet out-door
with ease. The transfer rate varies significantly with the underlying protocol [2].

2.3 Application:

Major use in Mobile Computing Devices
 Laptops, Mobile and Tablets
Electronic
 Television, DVD players, digital camera, and IoT devices.

2.4 Limitation:
Distance Limitation:
 Better compared to old technologies, but still exists.

Question 2.

1. Bit Rate: In data communication, the bit rate is the number of bits pass through the
communication medium in a certain amount of time (usually in seconds). In short, it
measures how much data is transmitted in a given amount of time.

For Example, 2Mbps means 2M (Mega) bits will transfer through the communication
channel in one second.

2. Baud Rate: Defined as the number of symbols or elements passing through the data
communication channel per unit time.

There exists a relationship between bit rate and baud rate i.e.

If Bit Rate (R), Baud Rate (r), and Number of bits per symbol or bits per element is
represented with (n) then,

           r = R/n

3. Bandwidth: Describe the maximum capacity of a network or internet connection to carry

data in a given amount of time.

Page | 3
Capacity varies in different media
 Wireless
 Wired
 Satellites
 Fiber Optics

4. Throughput:  It is a measure of time taken, packet to delivery from source to the

destination. Typically its capacity is measured in bits of data per second.

 Question 3.

1.0 Frequency Modulation (FM):
Aims at changing the frequency of the carrier signal following the message signal
amplitude, it is used normally for signals above 30 MHz [3] and well suited to produce
quality-sound and interference-free transmission of audio.

The Most Common Application are:
 Broadcast (FM radio)
 Two-way communication

2.0 Amplitude Modulation (AM):

When the amplitude of the carrier signal varies by the amplitude of the message signal
refers to AM. Implementation of AM is much simpler and easier than FM.

3.0 Frequency Modulation Over Amplitude Modulation:

The reason for a clear or better quality sound with FM is that it has a large signal-to-noise
ratio hence low radio frequency interception [4], which is better than AM signal. Certainly,
that is the reason why most broadcasters use FM over A
