Using one or more motivation theories from the chapter, explain why you think
ROWE works.

I think ROWE fits in two motivation theories:

Expectancy theory: According to the expectancy theory, it is predicted that an employee will
exert a high level of effort if he/she perceives a strong relationship between effort and
performance. Employees tend to compare effort with what they gain out of it. The equity theory
emphasizes a fair distribution of rewards between individuals.
Theory Y: Because managers believe that people like to work and pursue responsibilities, they
will exercise self-motivation and self-direction. This theory motivates employees to be more
responsible in what they do in their jobs and makes work more challenging than workers would
do with enthusiasm.
